    THIS POSITION IS PART-TIME, DAY SHIFT POSITION WORKING 1 DAY PER WEEK.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Maintains registry status in echocardiography
    • Verifies physician's order for appropriate test and diagnosis.
    • Verifies physician licensure for physician's not listed on Medical Staff roster. Maintains proficiency for computer applications needed to perform job.
    • Maintains proficiency in echocardiogram database in order to perform job and assist Physician's as needed.
    • Maintains proficiency in computer "downtime" processes for the service.
    • Assists in coordination of testing between nurses and physicians when applicable.
    • Maintains infection control by following Union hospital policy and procedures for infection control. Cleans the TEE probe using the appropriate protocol.
    • Maintains clean, tidy work environment.
    • Prepares for examinations by checking equipment and inventorying and restocking supplies; reviewing patient schedules; reading physician orders for specific examinations; setting-up recording equipment; entering patient information into system. Reports any issues with the ultrasound systems to the biomedical staff, the director and the cardiac echo staff and enters work request for service in a timely manner.
    • Reduces patient anxieties by explaining procedures; answering questions; providing assistance as needed. Prepares patients by positioning patient; applying gels; attaching electrodes to chest and equipment; adjusting equipment controls; verifying appropriate settings for testing.
    • Obtains quality images, records examination all in accordance with the department's policy and procedures for this testing.
    • Recommends echo contrast to be used as appropriate to improve image quality.
    • Maintains proficiency in obtaining quality images of contrast echocardiograms.
    • Communicates effectively with the medical staff
    • Assists with processing the completed charts for echo testing to assure timely reporting to the referring physician. Enters appropriate charges for the testing.
    • Completes CCUH ECG class and pass proficiencies yearly as directed by the Educational Department.
    • Protects patients by adhering to safety policies and
    • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential; cautioning others regarding potential breaches
    • Assists with keeping statistics for Quality Improvement and Lab accreditation.
    • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional
    • publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations, attending training on new procedures and or equipment as requested and maintaining appropriate continuing education credits for registering in cardiac echo testing
    • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; explaining opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
    • Willing to cross-train into the Vascular Lab and perform Vascular procedures
    • Assists in processing patient charts/records that are delayed and chart audit as follows "Critical Value" reporting and documentation.

     

    EDUCATION:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:

    • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Preferred.  If not a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, must obtain registry with one year after completed training.
    • BLS certification is required within one year of hire.
    • Medical Terminology is preferred.

     

    PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: 

    • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
