Diabetes Educator - Part Time Days Provides education regardingdiabetes self-care to inpatients, outpatients, community members, and theirfamilies/caregivers. Reviews patient information, obtains history, andassesses patients current knowledge, barriers to learning, and learningpreferences. Provides education as appropriate on diabetespathophysiology, glucose monitoring, insulin self-administration, otherdiabetes medications, and other self-care topics as appropriate. Collaborates with primary diabetes educator and other healthcare team membersincluding physicians. Provides education to inpatients in thehospital setting, and to outpatients and community members via individualappointments and/or group classes. Assists primary diabetes educator withdata collection and earning/maintaining facility ADA/TJCcertifications/recognitions. Hours: each Friday,Saturday, and Monday from approx. 9am to 5:30pm; 24 hours maximum perweek. May need to be occasionally available other days and times torelieve primary educator. * * Current CA Licensure as RN. * Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred. * Minimum 2 years experience as an RN. * Experience in care of patients with diabetes required; patient teaching experience strongly preferred. Candidate with strong knowledge of diabetes and diabetes self-care strongly preferred. * Possesses basic computer skills. * Clear, professional, personable communication. * Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. * BLS required SpecialtyCertification: Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) preferred.
