Allied Health Coop (DIV) Department Description: Farr 8 and the CVICU specialize in the care of patients who have undergone cardiac surgery. The patient care technician is an important member of our team, who plays a major role in caring for our patients, and preparing them to go home or to rehab after surgery. Our PCTs support the nurses both in ICU, step-down, and med-surg levels of care. Reporting to a registered nurse, this person is someone enrolled in Northeastern University's Co-op program and seeking additional hands-on experience. Training, evaluation and competencies for this role are overseen by an Accountable Nurse Leader to the department. Essential Responsibilities: - Provides basic supportive care to patients including specific treatments and procedures related to Activities of Daily Living. - Develops and maintains competencies as delegated by a registered nurse including sterile dressing changes. - Collaborates with nursing staff to determine patient care plans. - Reports all patient activity to the Registered Nurse in a timely manner.Required Qualifications: - High School diploma or GED required. - 0-1 years related work experience required. - Patient care experience required through any of the following areas: CNA, MA, EMT, PCT certificate. - Completion of BIDMC in-house training program. Allied Health and Physician Assistant program candidates. Home Health Aide. - Enrolled in Northeastern University's Co-op program. - Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.Competencies: - Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are based on specific instructions, standard practices and established procedures which generally require little or no supervision.
