Janssen, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting a PK/PD Modeling and In Vitro Assay Post-doctoral Intern.  The internship is offered by the Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) group within the Discovery, Product Development and Supply group of Janssen.  The DMPK group supports discovery and development of therapies for a range of indications including oncology, cardiovascular, metabolic, neurological and immunological diseases.

The focus of this internship will be to drive forward the relatively underdeveloped science of intestinal stability and absorption of peptides/peptidomimetic drugs.  While many peptides cannot be developed for oral use due to low intestinal absorption rates and high gut instability, exceptions exist (e.g. cyclic peptides).  Through mechanistic gut and PBPK modeling of existing data, as well as in vitro/in vivo assay development, the postdoctoral intern will improve our understanding of what drives peptide stability and absorption and how to apply this to drug discovery and development programs.

    The Postdoctoral Intern will:

    • Work with PBPK/PK-PD modelers to develop techniques to understand gut tissue exposure and systemic absorption of peptides.
    • Collaborate with in vitro and in vivo scientists to develop assays appropriate for peptides and translatable to the clinic.
    • Collaborate with internal and external experts to leverage knowledge and data from all available sources.
