    Support Graphic Packaging International Foodservice Business’s (FSB) Innovation Center’s Mechanical Engineering Department, new equipment builds and startups, in addition, provide technical support for existing equipment sustaining maintenance, overhauls, and upgrades as it applies to innovation.  Also support product development and fabrication activities while working in a safe manner and obeying all safety and conduct rules.

    The ideal candidate will understand and align business operations and the Mechanical Engineering Department as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.

    JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

    • Must work within and adhere to the company’s core values of Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships and Teamwork.

    • Read and work from mechanical, pneumatic and electrical schematics.

    • New Equipment: Assemble paper converting equipment that is used for the manufacturing of paper cups, plastic lids and corrugated boxes.

    • Used equipment: disassemble, clean, repair and rebuild paper converting equipment.

    • Identify and correct mechanical or electrical issues during the assembly/rebuild process.

    • Travel to production plant locations to provide support for machine installation, machine repair and maintenance support. Overnight travel is required.

    • Travel to forien countries may be required.

    • Participate in all safety meetings and required Safety walk thru assessments.

    • Work independently and or as a team member to complete tasks in a cost-effective timely manner.

    • Continue to learn new FSB equipment models and grow your job skills through on-the-job training and working with peers and other FSB personnel to increase job experience.

    • Work with, and occasionally oversee, other onsite technicians performing equipment set-ups, assembly, installations, and factory acceptance tests (FAT), and production start-up activities.

    • Support equipment manuals and service documentation development and suggest improvements.

    • Prepare concise, accurate, professional, and timely Service Work Reports, Safety Audits, and Expense Reports and other support documentation for plant visits and all service work performed.

    • Periodically inspect and confirm job related parts inventories, and recommend additional parts orders as needed for successful equipment maintenance and operation.

    • Provide management with daily verbal and/or written communications regarding job activities inhouse and in the field.

    • Support equipment design, upgrade, and manufacturing activities and sales/marketing efforts including internal and external customer visits if requested.

    • Follow GPI administration, workplace, and safety policies, procedures and practices.

    • Wear appropriate uniform and maintain professional appearance, conduct, and attitude and positively promote GPI business activities to all internal and external customers.

    • Supply your own toolbox as needed, with basic mechanical and electrical tools and measuring equipment.

    • Assist with FSB functions and activities as requested by management to increase GPI quality, growth, and revenue.

    • Knowledge of SolidWorks and AutoCAD software helpful but not required.

    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook is required.

    • Other duties as assigned.

    BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

    • Three years’ experience in machine assembly, machine maintenance.
    • Ability to use power and hand tools
    • Ability to use common machine shop equipment is required (mill, lathe, surface grinder, etc.)
    • Ability to read and understand blueprints

    EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

    • High School diploma or GED.  Experience in related field or compensatory closely related work experience required in lieu of diploma.

    SKILLS:

    • Must be able to speak, read and write English. Must have working knowledge of basic mechanical fundamentals. Perform tasks per instructions. Work well without supervision when needed
    • Must have experience in identifying basic hand tools. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of Three years’ hands on experience in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair of high speed equipment.
    • Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software:
      • Basic working knowledge of machine tools: drill presses, welders, grinders, lathes, milling machines, surface grinder, drills, hoists, man lifts, fork lifts, power tools, parts washers, horizontal and vertical saws, sand and ice blasters, painting equipment, hand tools, precision measuring equipment, wrenches, machining tools
      • Basic computer skills
      • All types of machinery involved in the Foodservice / folding carton industry. Must have own tools needed to make mechanical and/or electrical repairs.
    • Must be flexible: Able to work overtime and Saturdays/Sundays when needed.

    SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

    • General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
    • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Ability to drive or fly to Plant Site work locations.
    • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time at usually 8 hours, but up to 12-hours.
    • Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to climb ladders, and work platform stairs, and work at heights up to 15 feet with proper safety equipment and PPE.
    • Reading and operating computer screen or other electronic devices.
    • Use of various office equipment, hand and electrical tools, or equipment.

      

    KEY COMPETENCIES:
