    Job Description

    Overall responsibility for the ongoing development and leadership of the medical staff community, which will include the continued improvement of the quality of care and service delivery that supports the patient care model. This role requires proactive leadership, strategic problem-solving, and the ability to bring forward innovative models of care and improvement — not only identifying issues but proposing and executing viable solutions.

    Strategic Clinical Leadership: Setting and executing the organization’s clinical vision in alignment with enterprise-wide goals.

    Organizational Oversight: Ensuring high clinical performance, regulatory compliance, and integration across all departments.

    Quality and Safety: Leading our quality and patient safety strategy, including the development of dashboards, performance tracking models, and system-wide improvement plans.

    Executive Engagement: Partnering with senior leaders and external stakeholders to represent the organization’s clinical priorities.

    Operational and Financial Alignment: Contributing to cost management, resource allocation, and long-term planning.

    • Create a culture of physician integration, engagement and alignment consistent with the mission, vision and values.
    • Provides leadership and coordination of medical staff, developing and utilizing accountability and quality measures. Provides leadership and coordination of the Medical Staff Office including oversight of credentialing, privileging, and adherence to all regulatory requirements, such as The Joint Commission and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
    • Promotes medical staff growth and development through physician recruitment/retention and orientation
    • Provides leadership and medical direction with Joint Commission, NCQA and other regulatory/certification programs and participate actively in reporting, in preparation for and implementation of the survey processes.
    • Provides leadership in resource management and cost containment projects.
    • Participates in the hospital’s strategic and long-range planning efforts and leads applicable initiatives.
    • Develops and executes outreach strategies with other providers in order to enhance referrals with providers, hospitals, payors, etc.
    • In conjunction with the COO and CNO, and the Director of Quality, directs and coordinates safety/quality/performance initiatives.
    • Oversee the operations, growth, development, implementation and integration of all clinical services
    • Provides leadership regarding identification and implementation of measures to demonstrate value to constituencies
    • Manage relationships with academic and other partners.
    • Leads the quality board meetings in partnership with the Director of Quality
    • Leads the UM committee and oversees peer review and credentialing process
    • Practices clinically at the organization and supports the medical staff
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) from an accredited school of medicine is required.
    • Board certification from the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) is required or other which encompasses pediatric expertise (Emergency Medicine); ideal candidate is an intensivist.
    • Previous CMO experience or Medical Director experience
    • Knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform this job are typically acquired through a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience as a practicing physician and a physician executive that includes experiences in coordinating medical staff, performance improvement and quality programs. Leadership experience should include management of staff, budgets and clinical functions.
    • Knowledge of the latest pediatric healthcare standards and trends regarding quality, safety, information technology, physician-hospital collaboration, ambulatory and inpatient care, implications of healthcare reform, etc.
    • Ability to work effectively with an interdisciplinary team.
    • Embody the culture of a pediatric organization being patient and family-centered.
    • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
    • Knowledgeable in information systems and database management.
    • Knowledge of outcomes measurement of clinical quality and utilization.
