We do this by providing comprehensive supports to children and their families in targeted high-needs New York City neighborhoods. LOCATION: The Childrens Aid College Prep Charter School (Morrisania section of the Bronx, New York) Life Coach Position Description The Life Coach is the central staff member to a set of programmatic enrichment, prevention and intervention strategies designed to support the holistic development of Childrens Aid College Prep Charter School (CACPCS) students. CACPCS Life Coaches work under the daily supervision of the Community School Director who works under the direction of the Principal to develop and teach Life Skills and Family Life group sessions, foster and uphold the balance of parent and school communication, monitor student academic development, facilitate parent/school communication, help develop age appropriate social skills through events and field trips, and coordinate additional resources for students and their families relevant to familial enrichment, prevention and intervention. Specific Responsibilities: As an employee of the Childrens Aid Society working at the Childrens Aid College Prep Charter School, the Life Coach is primarily responsible for working with his/her school colleagues to ensure that the supports necessary to meet the demands of academic excellence are in place while working aggressively to eliminate or significantly reduce any barriers that may impede a childs healthy academic, socio-emotional, or physical development. Key Responsibilities: * Help elementary students set and achieve academic and non-academic goals * Ensure that each student has a set of achievable yearly goals and an action plan that have been developed with the input of the student, teachers, and parents/caregivers * Use the tools and resources provided to track student progress around these goals that are aligned to larger outcomes in the areas of Attendance, Self-Efficacy, Life Skills, Avoiding Risky Behavior, and Health * Foster positive and healthy relationships with each student * Provide intensive one-to-one life coaching to 15-20 students identified based on a set of specific needs * Maintain regular communication with students parents/caregivers in order to support the schools Parent Involvement goals * Provide cognitive/ behavioral therapy in accordance with mandated IEP goals and objectives and short-term therapy for identified at risk students * Program Delivery responsibilities include: * Delivery of the Social Emotional Learning curriculum * Delivery of the sexuality education and the career components of the CAS Carrera Pregnancy Prevention Program * Plan accordingly for the implementation of curriculum on a weekly basis * Produce weekly reports documenting interventions and progress of students * Work with his/her colleagues, supervisor and director to identify and coordinate academic and socio-emotional resources for students and their families * Participate in on-going training and professional development provided by CACPCS, the Carrera Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program and Community Schools * Use the resources provided by the Childrens Aid Society to meet the needs of students on a daily basis Qualifications: * 3-5 years of experience working with young people (in-school and/or out-of-school settings) * Masters degree in social work (MSW) - required * Social Work certification and/or license preferred * Bilingual Spanish Speaker Preferred Desired: * Experience with group facilitation and classroom management * Exceptional leadership skills and communication skills * Excellent organizational and time management skills * Commitment to professional development * A strong interest and belief in comprehensive age-appropriate sexuality education * A demonstrated commitment to goal-orientated work and focus on outcomes and results * A demonstrated ability to effectively work with students who have been traditionally under-served including English Language Learners, children with special needs, children who have been or are currently involved in the child welfare system, children living below self-sufficiency, and children from single parent households * Demonstrated ability to engage and motivate young people in urban settings * Ability to work independently and creatively as well as handle multiple tasks with exceptional attention to detail * Ability to work cooperatively with his/her school colleagues * Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues * A thorough understanding of youth development principles and practice * A history of service to under-resourced communities * Professionalism, sound judgment, foresight, flexibility and maturity * An entrepreneurial spirit which embraces creativity and hard work inherent in a start-up Compensation * Commensurate with experience and qualifications * Authorized to provide hours toward attaining Licensed Clinical Social Work designation Requirements: Job Type 1.
