    Sterile Processing Technician 2 - 11p-7:30a - Scottish Rite Sterile Processing Technician 2 - 11p-7:30a - Scottish Rite Work Schedule/Days: Night / Monday - Friday Employment Type: Full-Time Location: Scottish Rite Requisition #: 31001 JOB SUMMARY Performs a variety of duties in relationship to decontamination, preparation/assembly, sterilization, and distribution of trays/sets, equipment, and supplies with direct supervision. Performs routine cleaning such as wiping down tables. Participates in distribution of operating room supplies and trays/sets. Performs all tasks as assigned in a neat and organized manner. Maintains and prevents cross contamination by observing dress codes, environmental policies, and traffic control. EDUCATION * High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from a surgical technology or sterile processing technician program or three years of experience in a clinical environment CERTIFICATION SUMMARY * Sterile processing certification EXPERIENCE* * Three years of experience in a clinical environment or surgical technology or sterile processing technician program graduate PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS* * Experience in a surgical services environment KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES* * Basic computer skills * Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills JOB RESPONSIBILITIES* 1. Demonstrates efficient skills in decontamination, inspection, and cleaning of surgical instruments, flexible scopes, and respiratory devices according to manufacturers instructions for use. 2. Uses sterile processing chemicals according to manufacturers instructions for use. 3. Dons and doffs appropriate personal protection equipment. 4. Demonstrates efficient skills in assembling accurate/complete surgical trays. 5. Participates with and monitors process of building accurate and timely assembling of case carts for emergent/urgent and elective cases. 6. Manages sterilization equipment appropriately. 7. Validates sterilizer test parameters monitoring, e.g., bowie dick test, biologicals, and other forms of sterilization testing and responds appropriately to sterilization that does not pass. 8. Assists with maintaining department sterilization records. 9. Serves as Sterile Processing department service line leader. 10. Supports operating room functions in sterile core. 11. Uses chemicals in appropriate fashion, taking into consideration intended use and function of chemicals, including knowledge of appropriate personal protection equipment. 12. Demonstrates expertise necessary to precept technicians in all aspects of sterilization process and Sterile Processing department activity. 13. Assists with overseeing all department activities in absence of leadership to ensure flow of the highest level of operations by identification of issues and timely problem-solving, including reporting to supervisor. 14. Assists with orientation of new personnel as defined by department. 15. Shares in responsibility of answering telephones in a courteous, helpful manner and transferring calls to appropriate individuals. 16. Participates in customer service excellence with patients, physicians, families, visitors, coworkers, and vendors. 17. Fosters positive working relationships across departments and campuses with patients, physicians, families, visitors, coworkers, and vendors. 18. Follows all applicable regulations, standards, and recommendations. 19. Follows hospital and departmental safety instructions, policies, and procedures. 20. Attends 80% of staff meetings/communication and job-related educational opportunities. 21. Assists with planning and providing approved education to Sterile Processing department. SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES* Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system. Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
