Interviewing Experienced and New Graduate Registered Nurses for our Cardiothoracic Surgery Stepdown / Vascular Surgery Stepdown / Thoracic Surgery Stepdown / Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit units. Interviews available by appointment only. Please apply for further information. Cardiothoracic Surgery Stepdown Units: Our five Cardiothoracic Surgery Step-down Units encompass 120 inpatient beds staffed for superior nursing care. Our nurses exemplify professional practice through continuing education, innovation, research and multidisciplinary team collaboration to provide patient-centered care that promotes quality and best outcomes for our patients. The J51, J53 and J62 units each feature 24 patient beds and are dedicated to the care of the patient receiving coronary artery bypass surgery, valve repair or replacement and minimally invasive or off-pump coronary bypass surgery. In addition to this post-operative open heart patient population, we also care for all cardiac-related admissions, including Left/Right Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD/RVAD) and Total Artificial Heart (TAH) as well as those needing nitroglycerin drips to manage chest pain on J62. Also featuring 24 beds per unit, our J61 and J63 nursing units care for post-open heart cardiothoracic surgical patients, as well as telemetry patients who have undergone various cardiac procedures. Many patients in J61 and J63 have received innovative care procedures, offering opportunities for nurses to grow and learn in a fast-paced environment. The J61 and J63 step-down units transition patients from the ICU and prepare them for discharge. Some examples of our most common surgeries are valve replacement/repair, aneurysm repair, Maze, radiofrequency ablation, pulmonary vein isolation, pacemaker and defibrillator implant/removal and robotic assisted surgery. Vascular Surgery Stepdown Unit: We are a 25-bed surgical step-down telemetry unit with private rooms. Our patient census is largely individuals with vascular diseases/disorders. Common diagnoses include: acute DVT, extremity ischemia, abdominal aortic aneurysm, and peripheral ulcers. Most commonly, our post-operative patients are those who have undergone thrombolytic therapies, amputations, peripheral bypasses and vascular grafts or stenting. Co-morbidities of these patients often include hypertension, diabetes, renal failure and CAD. J81 is capable of cardiac monitoring on every patient. The patients admitted to J81 are evaluated by a physician team made up of a resident and NP. Through a collaborative process with the physicians and nursing personnel, a thorough assessment, plan of care, and therapeutic intervention for each patient is executed. Multidisciplinary rounds from Physical Therapy, Case Management, Respiratory Therapy, Nursing, Nutrition, Pharmacy and Social Services are frequently involved in assessing patient needs. Caregivers on this unit have participated in several hospital wide and institute wide committees including: Patience Experience, Skin Care Taskforce, Shared Governance, Practice Council, Vascular Surgery Business Review and Vascular Quality Reviews. J81 has also received Tier One Engagement Leader status for employee engagement for multiple years as well as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Department of the Year award in 2014 and Safety Champion Award in 2014 and 2015. J81 Research- Predictors of Pressure Ulcer Development in Patients with Vascular Disease. J81 has developed this research project based on our vascular patient population and the fact that there is limited research on patients with PAD. This project has been published in the Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing and the Journal of Vascular Nursing and presented at multiple professional conferences. Thoracic Surgery Stepdown: With an extremely unique, exciting and fast-paced nursing environment, our J52 Thoracic Surgery Step-down Unit is dedicated to delivering excellence in patient care. Our approach to patient care is one that is team-oriented and multidisciplinary, including nurse practitioners, case managers, and other specialized team members from areas like respiratory, dietary and more. With three assistant nurse managers on-hand, our management team ensures 24-hour unit coverage and clinical resource availability. As a 24-bed nursing unit, we specialize in esophagectomies, thoracotomies, hiatal hernia repairs, bilateral lung volume reduction and congenital chest abnormality repairs. Our team commonly conducts procedures such as thoracentesis, paracentesis and Claggett's Window dressing change. We also use common chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, Jejunostomy tubes with tube feeding, Jackson Pratt drains and PCAs (patient controlled analgesics). In addition to Thoracic Surgery patient care, J52 also treats patients for heart failure, chest pain and cardiac arrhythmias, and often prepares patients for open-heart surgery. Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Transplant Units: Our Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Transplant Units, J54 and J55, feature 26 patient beds. J54 is a 12-bed critical care unit and our J54 nurses are dedicated to the care of the patient receiving coronary artery bypass surgery, valve repair or replacement and minimally invasive or off-pump coronary bypass surgery. A slightly larger unit than J54, J55 encompasses 14 patient beds. Our dedicated nurses on J55 care for patients receiving a heart or lung transplant, ventricular assist device (VAD) implant or ECMO. Our VADs include Heartmate, Abiomed, Thoratec, Total Artificial Heart and the Tandem Heart.
