    Job Description

    Outpatient Oncology Dietitian

    • Under general supervision independently provides medical nutrition therapy to adult oncology outpatients at high nutrition risk in a fast-paced outpatient infusion center and clinic. Expect a high level of acuity with advanced stages of disease and involvement in research trials.
    • Uses own knowledge and skills to identify and re-evaluate nutrition risk throughout treatment program; independently performs the nutrition care process, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring, and evaluation, specific to age and medical status.
    • Provides nutrition education and counseling throughout the continuum of care for oncology diagnoses with focus on preventing and mitigating side effects of treatments as well as providing guidance on dietary needs pre and post complex cellular transplant and surgical interventions. Regularly collaborates with team members to develop an interdisciplinary nutrition plan of care.
    • Provides education, training, and expertise as a professional resource to members of the healthcare team, as well as dietetic interns, to advance their development in the field.
    • Experience with enteral and parenteral nutrition is preferred. Advanced certification preferred.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics or related field required.
    • Registration by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Commission on Dietetics Registration (CDR) required. Current licensure in the state of Maryland as a Dietitian/Nutritionist required.
    • Four (4) years clinical experience is required as a Registered Dietitian at a hospital facility, including completion of UMMC initial review preferred.
    • Prior completion of a Specialty Fellowship Program or Active Specialty Certification: CNSC, CDE, CSR, CSP, CSO, IBCLC is required. Maintenance of 30 CEUs/2 years (20 CEU in a specialty area every two years) is preferred.
    • Current on all mandatory classes/training Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and pharmacology as they relate to nutrition is required to make clinical decisions regarding a patient’s nutritional care plan.
