  • Responsibilities

    Under the direction of the Director of Nurses Perioperative Services, the Surgical Clinical Reviewer’s (SCR) is responsible for collecting information, analyzing and completing abstracts related to patients undergoing surgical procedures at El Paso Children’s Hospital.

    Required Skills

    1. Communicates effectively both orally and in writing and time-management skills
    2. Able to evaluate and present data to other professionals/non-professionals, including Physicians, in a clear concise manner.
    3. Proficient in the principles of analytical assessment and creative problem solving.
    4. Has knowledge of hospital systems and organizational relationships.
    5. Proven experience prioritizing organizational performance improvement efforts.
    6. Works effectively in teams or alone.
    7. Experienced in group facilitation techniques.
    8. Skilled in the use of data management, computer systems and related software applications.
    9. Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
    10. Ability to interpret clinical data and understand clinical procedures and terminology.
    11. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

    Required Experience

    A.    Work Experience

    Minimum one year experience in hospital surgery department, surgery clinic, clinical research or medical records. Clinical chart review and abstraction experience required. Database data entry and/or management experience preferred. Basic statistical knowledge preferred.

    Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience preferred.               

    B.    Education and Training 

    Graduate from an accredited school of nursing or Associates Degree in Nursing.               

    C.    License/Registration/Certification

    ACS NSQIP certification examination within 18 months of hire date.

    RHIA, RHIT, LPN/LVN, RN or BSN preferred.

    Current License to practice in the State of Texas.
