The Columbus Blue Jackets and Minnesota Wild became the NHLs 29th and 30th teams when they debuted on the ice during the 2000-01 season. When the first puck dropped at Nationwide Arena in October 2000, the Blue Jackets made history as the first franchise in the four oldest major sports leagues in North America NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL to call Ohios capital city home. Since that time, the Blue Jackets have become a much-respected organization in the community, across the state and throughout the NHL. On the ice, the Blue Jackets have emerged in recent years as one of the most exciting young teams in the National Hockey League. Summary: This position manages payroll processes and performs administration of employee benefits in all company operations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Manage and guarantee semi-monthly disbursement of multi-state payroll, including commissions, bonuses, per diem, garnishments, fines, union dues, benefits and taxes to 800 employees consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws. Ensure the processing of new hires, transfers, promotions and terminations is accurate and timely. Critically review and analyze current payroll, benefits and tax procedures to improve efficiency and to recommend and implement changes leading to best practices operations. Administer the time and attendance policy and paid leave policy for all employees; audit for integrity. Audit W-4s, payroll balance sheets, 401k census, benefit enrollments, etc. Maintain files and records pertaining to payroll and tax submissions; assist with maintenance and accuracy of personnel files. Manage the review and distribution of annual W2's and 1095-C's. Administer employee benefits programs such as retirement plans; medical, dental, vision plans; life insurance plans; and temporary disability programs. Install approved new plans or changes to existing plans by preparing or gathering announcement materials, plan summary documents and other media for communicating plans to employees; conduct employee meetings and arrange for enrollment. Assure company compliance with provisions of Employee Retirement Income Security Act and the Affordable Care Act. Supervise preparation of reports and applications required by law to be filed with federal and state agencies, such as Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, insurance commissioners, and other regulatory agencies. Advise and counsel employees on existing benefits; handle payroll and benefits inquiries and complaints to ensure quick, equitable, courteous resolution. Ensure COBRA administration compliance of deadlines and receipt of notices. Process monthly invoices and payments of premiums. Assist with new hire orientation, ensuring accurate completion and filing of paperwork. Respond to requests for employment verification and to all unemployment claims in a timely manner. Produces scheduled and ad-hoc reports pertaining to payroll and human resources requirements. Responsible for annual Wellness Week initiatives. Assists with special HR projects and events, including company meetings, employee appreciation events, luncheons and potlucks, staff holiday parties, tickets and community initiatives. Education and/or Experience Bachelors degree in accounting, business, or a related field. 3-5 years of experience and/or training in payroll; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Working experience of payroll tax at the federal, state and local levels is required. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Office Software and payroll processing software.
