POSITION OVERVIEW: SNAP-ED NYC NUTRITION EDUCATOR
Common Threads is seeking a Nutrition Educator to lead on-site and virtual classes throughout NYC. The ideal candidate is responsible for maintaining a high quality of implementation, scheduling, auditing, and communication with school staff, community partners, and the Common Threads team. This position will work with and share responsibilities with local Program Managers. There will be frequent travel within the city to partner schools and a training trip to the Albany conference once a year.
This is a full-time, exempt position that reports to the Nutrition Education Manager. This position offers a hybrid work model that includes onsite (Staten Island office) and remote days as determined by the manager, with regular local travel to school and community partner sites within all 5 boroughs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach children and adults cooking skills and nutrition, both virtually and/or in person; give participants the tools to make healthy choices using existing lesson plans from Common Threads
Work with students in 1st-8th grades and their parents, and manage a classroom of approximately 25 participants and one classroom teacher
Communicate with school and partner organization staff and admin, as well as with Common Threads staff
Educators will be trained on and follow the Common Threads curriculum, policies and procedures, and administrative requirements
Educators are required to follow the approved course curriculum, complete all grocery shopping (paid for by Common Threads) and submit required documentation
Administer pre-and post-surveys to students and families and manage paperwork (if applicable)
Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree required. Nutrition, dietetics, community and behavioral health, health education, public health, nursing (or related field) required
Experience teaching or working with children and adults in diverse community settings is strongly preferred.
Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
Culinary school and/or food industry experience is strongly preferred
Possess positive, upbeat energy and a passion for wellness, food access, tolerance and awareness, and making a positive impact on society
Strong time management and logical thinking skills; must be task-oriented
Solid analytical and problem-solving skillset
Strong skills in written & verbal communication, organization, and collaboration
Computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, Outlook, and Google Drive documents.
Experience and/or high comfort level working virtually with internal and external team members
A commitment to the mission and values of Common Threads
Must hold current food service sanitation certifications or obtain within the first 90 days of employment
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Mileage or MTA transit will be reimbursed.
This position is grant-funded through SNAP-Ed. Salary range: $55-60k
This is a full-time position that will primarily work Monday - Friday. Some nights and/or weekends may be required.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Common Threads employees are subject to a background check prior to employment.
Instructors should be comfortable teaching in a virtual setting and possess adequate technology to teach a class, such as a laptop/computer/digital tablet, camera, headphones/mic, etc.
Instructors must be available to teach for eight consecutive weeks, typically once per week
Instructors must arrive at the class location one hour before class start time to prep for in-person programming. In virtual classes, instructors must adequately prepare for the class in their home kitchen; and join the meeting ready to teach at least 5 minutes before class start time.
Candidate should reside in the NYC area.
Candidate must attend mandatory training in Albany, NY, or other virtual or in-person training, as required.
