    Position Summary:
    We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Central Service Technician - Per Diem (as needed).

    In this role, the successful candidate Under general supervision, cleans, sterilizes and assembles patient care equipment and instruments. Decontaminates using detergents and disinfecting solutions. Prepares and sterilizes instruments and procedure trays.

    Job Responsibilities:

      1. Decontamination and Infection Control
      * Transport contaminated items to and from the department safely and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
      * Ensure that all equipment is decontaminated and tested prior to patient use.
      * Wears protective equipment when performing job responsibilities.
      * Able to operate washer sterilizer.
      * Visually inspect all instruments and equipment when received into the decontamination area and after it has been cleaned.
      * Clean wire carts on a daily basis.
      * Recognizes and adheres to Medical Center and departmental infection control policies and procedures.
      2. Packaging, Storage and Transport
      * Checks all packages for sterility.
      * Transports sterile items to and from the area in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures.
      * Able to recognize and identify instruments used.
      * Follows guidelines for sterile storage procedures.
      * Assembles and packages trays and instruments according to guidelines.
      * Able to assemble equipment for patient use.
      3. Par Locations
      * Performs inventory of par location according to established daily schedule.
      * Returns to department, picks supplies from departmental inventory and returns to the par location within established time guidelines (45 minutes per location).
      * Decrement inventory using hand-held terminals after each par location is restocked.
      * Enters shipping feedback information into the computer after each par location is restocked.
      * Use hand-held terminals to perform inventory.
      * Able to identify needs of units served within the organization.
      * Maintains par locations and levels to meet the needs of the unit on a daily basis.
      4. Sterilization
      * Labels trays and items for sterilization.
      * Monitors all mechanical indicators necessary to meet sterilization parameters.
      * Monitors and processes biological indicators and logs information accurately.
      * Operates machinery according to manufacture guidelines.
      * Load sterilizer in accordance with established guidelines to ensure that steam circulates appropriately.
      5. Clerical Responsibilities
      * Complete requisitions for supplies as received by users.
      * Decrement inventory and report discrepancies to supervisor daily.
      * Enters shipping feedback information after each requisition is filled.
      * Delivers supplies to units according to established delivery schedule.
      * Communicates professionally at all times with co-workers and customers.
      * Performs cycle-counts for inventory purposes as needed.
    

    Minimum Qualifications:
    To qualify you must have a High school diploma or equivalent.
    Good customer service skill required
    Candidate must have computer knowledge and be detail orientated
    Currently certified must maintain either 12 hours of continuing education or 6 self-study test lessons .
    Candidate hired prior to 1/1/11 must maintain 10 hours of continuing education for all practicing Central Service Technicians annually
    Candidate hired between 1/11/11 1/01/15 must provide evidence that he/she has been employed in a healthcare facility for a period of one (1) year during the four years prior to 1/01/15
    Candidate hired after 1/1/15 CRCST is preferred; or CRCST must be obtained by the 18th monthly anniversary of the position start date
    Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
    Ability to push and pull more than 100 pounds continually. Ability to occasionally lift more than 75 lbs. Ability to continually bend and squat and occasionally climb steps/ladder.
    Ability to walk and stand for a majority of work time..

    Preferred Licenses: Central Sterile tech (HSPA)

    Preferred Qualifications:
    central sterile experience / central sterile processing certification

    Long Island Community Hospital provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $21.49 - $23.00 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

    • Must have basic mathematical skills to assist with measurements and computations of installed quantities
    • Must be able to interpret and implement company mandated safety policies
    • Must have an ability to operate a level and have an understanding of cut and fills and elevations for grades
    • Must be able to operate a computer and computer software related to word processing and spreadsheets
