Janssen Research & Development, L.L.C., a division of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies is recruiting an Intern, Data Science (Virtual), in Janssen R&D Data Sciences. The R&D Data Science team within Janssen is driven to meaningfully change the trajectory of disease with transformational medicines to advance the care of patients in the communities we serve.

The team utilizes a diverse set of data and tools, along with platform solutions to answer impactful analytical questions and inform key projects from discovery all the way through late development. This role is virtual and sits within the Advanced Biomedical Knowledge Platforms team which delivers innovative knowledge-driven applications across our therapeutic areas.

POSITION COMPONENTS

In this role, you will

• Participate in various real use cases of data sciences especially the implementation of novel NLP techniques across R&D.
• Envision innovative ways of embedding NLP outputs directly into research workflows to provide timely insights to colleagues where and when they are most needed.
• Conduct research on classifying and searching unstructured biomedical documents by reviewing, implementing, and evaluating existing approaches as well as proposing and experimenting new solutions that lean more on biomedical insights.
• Build self-service knowledge-based platforms based on research findings to meet specific business needs.
• Communicate and deliver knowledge-based insights and tools through creative visualizations and documentations.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Be pursuing a Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative field (computer sciences, machine learning, mathematics, statistics, physics, computational informatics, medical informatics, computational biology, bioinformatics)
• Proficiency in Python or R programming language.
• Familiarity with NLP concepts
• Ability to think critically and apply new techniques to existing frameworks
• Possess strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
• Ability to work individually (independently) as well as on a team
• Be curious and not afraid to challenge the status quo.

PREFERRED

• Experience with NLP techniques and tools such as topic modeling, word/document embeddings, NLTK, spacy, Gensim, etc.
• Familiar with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch
• Experience of building intelligent search engine using NLP
• Research and publication experience in related fields
• Familiarity with basics of biology or medicine
