DSS/Supplemental Ortho Uro Specialist DHS?_DH Midtown Evansville,IN Patient Care Support Supplemental,As Needed,various Posted12/13/2018 Req #10414 SUMMARY OF THE JOB -In addition to the responsibilities of the PCT role, the OUS performs and documents specialized tasks related to traction/cast/splint application/urological care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The decision of whether or not to delegate or assign is based upon the RNs judgment concerning the condition of the patient, the competence of all members of the nursing team and the degree of supervision that will be required of the RN. The RN delegates only those tasks for which she or he believes the other health care worker has the knowledge and skill to perform, taking into consideration training, cultural competence, experience and facility/agency policies and procedures. (Principles of Delegation, ANA guidelines 2003). Provides input/guidance into the care of patient populations requiring orthopedic/urological care; as well as provides the necessary patient/family/employee instruction under the direction/supervision of the Registered Nurse/Team Leader/ Manager. Maintains adequate levels of unit supplies related to ortho/uro procedures in coordination with Sterile Supply. Checks and assists with the maintenance of equipment related to ortho/uro procedures. Assists with new product evaluation of orthopedic/urological supplies. Successfully completes yearly OUS skills evaluation. Successfully completes preceptor course within a year and meets continuing education to maintain preceptor status.Must be able to travel between campuses including during schedule shifts. Education and Experience -Completion of high school education or equivalent. -Previous patient care or nursing assistant experience desired. -One to two years related patient care experience and/or training (or an equivalent). -One to two years education in exercise science, general A&P classes or the sciences desired. -Successfully completes PCT classes as required by care center/unit. -Certification preferred upon hire but not required. -Registered Orthopedic Technologist (ROT) certification must be obtained within one year of meeting eligibility to sit for the ROT exam. -Failure to obtain ROT certification within above time frame will result in employee removal from the Ortho Uro Specialist position. -Certificates, Licenses, Registrations -Basic Life Support: Health Care Provider, within six months of hire.
