  • Responsibilities

    As the CONTROLLER with LIBERTY PACKAGING SAN DIEGO,  you will be an integral part of the finance team leading accounting, reporting and financial control processes to fuel operational and financial success. You will provide day to day accounting, reporting and financial control for the company and will drive innovation through process improvement, data analysis and supporting initiatives to further Liberty Packaging’s reputation and long-standing success.

     

    This full-time position reports directly to the Regional Finance Director and is located at Liberty Packaging’s manufacturing plant in San Diego, California.

    Required Skills

    IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL

    • Ensure timely and accurate P&L and Balance Sheet accounting in compliance with US GAAP and corporate policies utilizing current best practices to maximize value and efficiency
    • Prepare monthly sales and financial statements including monthly results write-up.
    • Analyze financial statements and explain variances from budget, forecast and prior periods.
    • Partner with other controllers in the region to manage and execute the month-end close process.
    • Partner with plant managers and supervisors to ensure inventory cycle counts are completed.
    • Implement inventory management processes and metrics to ensure inventory accuracy and timeliness.
    • Manage and develop/enhance tools for annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting process.
    • Manage accounts receivable process including maintenance of customer master for new and existing customers, credit approval, oversee billing, recording customer payments, monitoring unpaid invoices, identifying and resolving discrepancies, and collections
    • Partner with Corporate Accounts Payable to ensure timely processing of vendor invoices
    • Manage customer rebate programs including accurate calculation of rebates earned
    • Ensure Liberty maintains effective financial control by managing approval levels, separation of duties and other financial control tools
    • Identify, design and implement process improvements within Accounting functions to increase productivity and engagement
    • Ensure full utilization of systems capabilities to create simple, repeatable, and automated processes
    • Ensure reliability of data to support business decision making needs
    • Act as a liaison between Liberty and the corporate finance team to leverage support and ensure timely and accurate compliance with corporate policies, reporting and procedures in the areas of accounting, reporting, IT, treasury & tax
    • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning, shared knowledge of business processes and commitment to quality
    • Other duties as assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
    • 5 years accounting experience, combination of public/private, manufacturing industry strongly preferred
    • CPA preferred (or current CPA candidate)
    • MBA preferred
    • Ability to work independently, balancing routine responsibilities with ad hoc requests
    • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player, complete work with accuracy and speed and strive for professional growth within the department and company
    • Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize work and meet multiple deadlines timely and accurately in a fast-pace working environment
    • Strong Project management skills with proven results
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills as you will interact with all levels of the organization
    • Advanced Microsoft Office Skills, ERP Systems (JDEdwards preferred) and Business Intelligence systems (Microstrategy preferred)
