  • Responsibilities

     

    Responsible for ensuring the quality of incoming raw materials and outgoing product are within established standards, customer specifications, and product parameters, aligning with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives. Works with operations teams to utilize lean concepts to eliminate waste.  

    1. Responsible for supervising the safe practices of the Quality Technicians and observing the safe actions of all plant personnel.
    2. Must have the ability to do all paperwork necessary for the job.
    3. Must keep informed of the production schedule and direct employees on meeting deadlines outlined by the schedule.
    4. Must be able to measure the quality performance of individuals and crews in all departments in order to focus on maintaining and improving their quality performance.
    5. Must have basic technical knowledge of the equipment in order to know the capabilities and limitations of the equipment in order to make sound trouble shooting decisions to meet quality goals.
    6. Must be prepared to take disciplinary measures against employees when safety, quality, production, and other behavioral standards are not met (based on discussion with upper management prior to action).
    7. Must oversee proper procedure following and cleanliness of department areas as outlined in the ISO and SQF quality programs. Serves as the management representative and practitioner for the above programs.
    8. Must understand the workings of job jackets and how to transfer the information on the jackets into make ready and quality production activities.
    9. Must be available to iron out discrepancies or misunderstandings of information on the job jackets and check for inaccuracies on job jackets.
    10. Must periodically check work in process and finished goods for quality issues.
    11. Must answer quality complaints from customers and work with customers on quality issues when needed.
    12. Must communicate with other managers in order to facilitate a better working environment and to better control problems (both technical and social) in safety, quality, production, raw materials, and behavioral standards.
    13. Must operate the safety and food safety programs as the “practitioner” and is informed on all of the issues related to these programs.
    14. Verifies and validates the food safety prerequisite programs and the changes to the food safety processes and the quality program. Verification and validation is documented on the steering committee meetings. The audit process is the main method in the documentation validation (detailed in SP3 Internal Audit).
    15. Responsible for carrying out any other management responsibilities upper management may have.
    16. The Plant Manager takes the place of the Continuous Improvement Manager in their absence by handling issues related to the food safety program and any emergency arriving from issues in safety, food safety, and quality.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.
    • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
    • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
    • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.

    SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

    • General schedule is an 8-10 hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.

    • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, or riding.  Travel to customer locations to assist with trials or to resolve complaints.

     

     

    Required Experience

    • Four year degree in a science or engineering preferred; or closely related work experience required in lieu of degree.
