    The Intern will be a member of the Drug Product Development& Device (DPD&D) organization. The candidate for this position will join the team responsible for evaluation and implementation of new, cutting-edge technologies into manufacturing. The individual will gain experience in parenteral formulation, drug delivery, process development, process optimization, and laboratory analytical methods focusing on ultra-high concentration protein therapeutics. The Intern will learn about the development and optimization of technical operations associated with non-aqueous biologics including monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) formulation to enable ultra-high concentration protein therapeutics. 

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Investigate non-aqueous carrier fluid performance with biologics, including screening carriers and excipients to alter drug product characteristics, evaluating the stability of novel formulations, and developing novel analytical methods/tools to assay product attributes.

    • Develop and optimize biologic formulations including non-aqueous carrier selection and excipient screening using biophysical, biochemical, and materials characterization measuring protein stability, rheology, surface tension, extrusion force, and more.

    • Accurately and clearly record data in order to aggregate, visualize, and analyze data for trends.

    • Author technical reports and present data to peers and functional management.

    • Operates current laboratory equipment and instruments and adheres to laboratory safety and SOPs including those specific to biologically derived materials.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    COMPETENCY (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED):

    • A basic understanding of organic chemistry, rheology, and manufacturing principles and processes, preferably with an application to large molecule production.

    • Some knowledge of and the ability to perform data evaluation and statistical analysis.

    • Strong communication skills to share findings and progress to management.

    • Problem solver, able to keep big picture in mind.

    • Wet lab experience is preferred.

    DEGREE:

    • The candidate will be pursuing a major in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field and has already completed at least the organic chemistry lecture and laboratory sequence for their program.
