Our work focuses on issues such as mental health, family relationships and life skills, and our programs range from prevention and early intervention to community-based, day and residential treatment. Program Description Edgewood Center for Children and Families operates two Drop-in Centers (DICs) that provide a variety of services to all 18-25 year olds in the community. Each peer-led program serves as a safe space offering free resources to meet the basic needs of each young adult. The DICs provide regularly scheduled programming such as recreational opportunities, social and health awareness workshops, access to computers and the Internet, a clothes closet, and linkage to community resources. Referrals and resources are provided to address homelessness, legal issues, medical or mental health symptoms, academic and vocational barriers, and other concerns identified by our participants. The primary goals of the DICs are to: promote socialization and community connectedness; support academic and/or vocational exploration and growth; to encourage the development of independent living skills; and to empower rising leaders and advocates. Position Description The Healthy Generations Intern will facilitate a safe and welcoming environment for Drop-in Center participants and provide support and peer mentorship. The Healthy Generations Intern will gather information about health needs and interests from our emerging adult participants to provide health and wellness resources and plan related groups and activities. Additionally, they will do community outreach and create a health and wellness resource guide for emerging adults in the southern region of San Mateo County. Educate thru peer mentorship and collaboration with our public health nurse Empower young adults to take charge of their own health and wellness and Connect young adults to local health and wellness provider.
