  • Responsibilities

    As PLANNER/BUYER with SAFCO PRODUCTS, you will be responsible for the planning and purchasing of raw material supporting production. This position will manage production schedules and select suppliers to ensure on time delivery at competitive pricing while managing inventory levels to prevent shortages and maximize turns.

    This full-time position reports directly to the MATERIALS MANAGER and is located at Safco’s manufacturing plant in Milford, Iowa.

    Required Skills

    IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

    • Manage daily, weekly and monthly production planning process for assigned products to ensure delivery objectives.
    • Generate Purchase Orders to approved suppliers for direct materials to support internal manufacturing plan demand requirements.
    • Analyze messages from the MRP system and place orders in a timely manner.
    • Secure supplier Purchase Order acknowledgements and maintain accurate expected delivery data in ERP
    • Maintain on-going accuracy of system information to include suppliers and product parameters (e.g. lead times, minimum order quantities, safety stock).
    • Monitor supplier Purchase Orders to ensure on time delivery along with managing expedite, cancellations and delay messages.
    • Communicate schedule changes to the leaders of production areas and Materials Manager.
    • Responsible for schedule prioritization and for monitoring delivery performance.
    • Support customer requirements to proactively anticipate supply risks, initiative actions to prevent backorders, and communicate supply availability information.
    • Assist in development and communication of recovery plans on backorders and outages as required, implementing corrective actions to minimize future occurrences.
    • Communicate schedule changes to the leaders of production areas and Materials Manager.
    • Prepare and issue purchase orders and expedite deliveries.
    • Work with accounts receivable and suppliers to resolve purchase order receiving, invoicing, and reconciliation activities.
    • Generate/distribute Supplier Scorecards monthly. Work with Sourcing/Suppliers to improve scorecards as required.
    • Manage inventory to achieve targeted inventory turns and dollar levels.
    • Review manufacturing departments daily work orders to balance as needed.
    • Work closely with Master Scheduler to accommodate schedule change requests and level load production schedules at the work center level.
    • Identify any gaps in the Master Production Plan and drive solutions.
    • Release work orders to the production floor based upon MRP output.
    • Cutting and tracking WO, to include New Product Work Orders
    • Participate in process improvement projects.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • BS degree or equivalent work experience
    • 0-2 years of related business experience in purchasing or planning experience
    • Basic purchasing principles and concepts
    • Basic inventory management principles and concepts, including bills of materials
    • Basic logistics principles
    • Business system software experience – JDE/Oracle experience a plus
    • Proficient in MS Office – Excel, Word, Outlook
    • Must be hands-on with strong problem solving / analysis
    • Detail orientation
    • Managing internal and external relationships
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Multi-tasking
    • Flexibility
