    The Robotics and Digital solutions (RAD) group, part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, is recruiting for an Electrical Engineering Co-Op for the Strategic Robotics R&D Team. This position is located in Santa Clara, CA.

    What we do:

    The Strategic Robotics R&D team envisions a future for robotic intervention that is targeted, minimally invasive, and personalized. Building upon a deep understanding of patient and physician needs, we are developing a platform for the next evolution of soft-tissue robotic care.

    We are a team of clinical, electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, robotic controls, and software engineers who are passionate about improving patient care. The team includes a wide range of experience levels from junior engineers to industry experts. We follow an iterative design approach to product development that requires us to collaborate closely across clinical, instruments, accessories, and capital hardware teams. We value autonomy and empower each other to take action while remaining a supportive and closely knit team.     You:

    As a member of the Strategic Robotics R&D team you will join us on our journey to design and build one of the world's most advanced medical robotic platforms. You will work alongside all engineering functions to make contributions in electrical strategies and solutions for capital hardware, design evaluations, and more. This role offers a high degree of autonomy and opportunities for growth within the team as we progress towards realizing our vision.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Assist with design and prototype activities including PCB creation, connection with suppliers, testing, debugging, and documentation for electrical boards and sub-systems

    • Coordinate with different teams and coworkers to accomplish tasks

    • Generate and present design concepts, perform design reviews to team members

    • Participate in the clinical assessments of robotic devices in inanimate anatomical models

    Qualifications

    Education:

    Currently enrolled in an accredited program pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or similar degree and returning to an academic program after the completion of the internship.

    Experience and Skills:

    Required:

    • Experience with PCB design software such as Altium, Eagle, or KiKad.

    • Experience with testing devices such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc.

    • Self-starter with a proven track record of engaging in self-directed learning and remaining productive with minimal direction

    Preferred:

    • Prior internship or Co-op experience recommended

    • Robotics or medical device experience preferred

    Other:

    • Must be at least 18 years of age

    • Must have work authorization in the United States at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

    The expected pay range for this position is between $31.00 per hour and $59.00 per hour but will be based on candidate's program year, discipline, degree and/or experience. Co-Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension).
