Ethicon, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Manufacturing Engineering Co-Op for three work rotations or sequential semesters starting Summer/Fall 2022.
The Manufacturing Engineering Co-Op will support the surgical suture and needle manufacturing process at the Ethicon Cornelia, GA site and will work with experienced engineers to support the following manufacturing activities:
Provide process engineering and controls support
Plan and conduct activities related to the development of new processes, including researching current and emerging technologies, evaluating process cost, quality, and capability alternatives, performing process characterization and optimization using designed experiments, and problem solving and decision-making tools
Provide technical support in troubleshooting, design, and construction of manufacturing processes, systems, and equipment
Plan improved manufacturing equipment and processes. Ensure fulfillment of all regulatory, safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental requirements for implementation of new products, processes, and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Gather and interpret process data to implement improvements in cycle time, yield, or quality
Participate in problem solving efforts by analysis and correction of chemical, electrical, and mechanical operating problems to maintain or improve existing site operations
Invent and implement change controls
Craft and update production records and equipment operating procedures
Prepare and present oral and written reports, as needed, to technical and non-technical personnel. Including end of semester presentations to showcase work to site management
Maintain process surveillance programs on issues such as process control, yields, cycle times, quality, etc.
Participate in and coordinate process excellence (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) improvement projects, Kaizen events, and other manufacturing initiatives
Work with R&D, vendors, hourly operators, and contractors
Learn and interact with different forms of equipment automation and plant control systems (PLC, MES)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Students must be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Computer Science, or similar degree. Additionally, completion of first year with a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA is required.
Authorization to work in the United States and not require sponsorship in the future is required
Commitment to working full time (40 hours per week) for the duration of the co-op is required
A housing stipend will be provided based on eligibility, and reliable transportation to and from the work location is required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Pay strong attention to detail, be highly organized, and able to prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic environment
Demonstrate written and verbal interpersonal skills to connect with manufacturing associates, plant management, contractors, and suppliers - we provide many opportunities to improve your technical writing, speaking, and presenting skills
Ability to work both independently and on multi-functional and cross-cultural teams
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) with a basic knowledge of pivot tables and graphs. Experience with statistical analysis techniques and software is a plus
Leadership and participation in campus/ community service activities are preferred
