    Job Description

    The Disabilities Specialist is responsible for assisting the Coordinator in carrying out the oversight of special service operations in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, guidelines, and will use agency standards to ensure that services provided are in alignment with the Social Determinants of Health through a trauma informed care lens as defined by the agency. Provides assistance in the oversight of Individual Education Plans of Head Start/Early Head Start Child Care Partnership children. Functions include assisting in the development, modification, and implementation of Head Start/Early Head Start Child Care Partnership curriculum and effective practices for special education children according to the Head Start Program Performance Standards. Assist in coordinating on-going relationships with therapeutic specialists such as speech and play therapy. Assist in providing the ongoing monitoring and record keeping systems for the Head Start/Early Head Start Child Care Partnership Disability department in accordance with policies and procedures. Serves children ages birth to 5 years of age.

    1. High School Diploma or GED with demonstrated competence in database maintenance and integrity attained through on-the-job training, required. Applied Associates degree in systems management, family and child sciences, early childhood, social work or related field preferred. 2. Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification. 3. Familiar with and have working knowledge of ChildPlus, Microsoft Office Operating Systems, word processing, spreadsheets and databases; basic understanding of database systems and their utilizations. 4. Strong organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects and meet multiple deadlines through effective time management. 5. Must be knowledgeable of Head Start Performance Standards, Head Start Act, Council of Accreditation, and Texas Department of Family Protective Services Minimum Rules and Standards. 6. Demonstrated knowledge of agency and community resources and services, understands cultural differences and is sensitive to the implications of culture for service delivery; and familiar with family dynamics. Able to utilize various learning techniques in the successful delivery of Family and Community Support Services. 7. Experience working with children 0-5 years old and their families. 8. Strong communication skills with the ability to provide excellent customer service both verbally and written. 9. Fluent in English and Spanish (read, write, and speak) desirable.
