    In line with this focus, Johnson & Johnson is currently seeking candidates for the role of FEDERAL AFFAIRS INTERN. This role will be based in Washington, D.C. or work remotely as current conditions determine. The intern will serve as a member of our Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Federal Affairs team, a part of the Johnson & Johnson Worldwide Government Affairs & Policy (WWGA&P) organization, where we unleash the power of people and policy to create a healthier future for all.

    The Federal Affairs Intern will be responsible for supporting the work of an active team engaged in direct Federal lobbying and other political activities in support of the corporation’s Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, and Consumer Health businesses, as well as enterprise-level efforts, and the patients, providers, and consumers we serve.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Federal Affairs summer internship program is designed to help successful, highly motivated, diverse entry-level talent make an impact on patients every day and become tomorrow’s leaders. The internship is designed to provide an integrated, educational, robust experience for qualified candidates interested in government affairs and policy careers. Participants will experience the breadth and depth of the Federal Affairs function by participating in key projects and programs in support of the needs of the Federal Affairs team.

    The Federal Affairs intern will have the opportunity to work with team members from across the Federal Affairs team, allowing them to gain experience from multiple sectors and perspectives. The intern will be assigned a dedicated mentor to help shape and guide their experience with the J&J Federal Affairs team. Among other tasks, the Federal Affairs intern can expect to support Federal lobbying efforts and other initiatives through the following activities:

    • Conducting research and preparing materials.
    • Drafting briefs, summaries, and other materials in collaboration with J&J Global Policy, Government Affairs, and other departments.
    • Participating in internal meetings and attending external meetings to advance projects and positions.
    • Bringing unique experiences and perspectives to enhance our Federal Affairs work.
  • Qualifications

    REQUIRED:

    • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. and must not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future (e.g. H1-B status)
    • A minimum GPA of 3.0 cumulative from an accredited undergraduate or graduate-level education program.
    • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
    • Strong project management, communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives while maintaining a strong sense of urgency.
    • Candidate must be able to work full time (40 hours per week) during the duration of the internship, as well as attend occasional events and opportunities outside of normal business hours.
    • Candidate must be able to work effectively in a virtual work environment.

    PREFERRED:

    • Familiarity with basic structures and functions of the U.S. Government.
    • An interest in government affairs, policy, and/or health care policy.
    • Currently pursuing a degree in a field related to government affairs, political science, policy, law, health, economics, public affairs, or other related disciplines.
    • Previous experience in professional employment setting(s).
