  • Responsibilities

    The AOD is responsible for the day to day operation of the hospital and functions as the Administrator for the hospital departments after hours. Coordinates the interdepartmental activities of hospital Employees through the interpretation of hospital standards, processes, and policies. Functions as the extension of an on-site representative for Administration and Department Directors and is the liaison between Departments, Hospital Administration, and Employees. Coordinates and supervises the administration of patient care and hospital systems and is responsible for the overall functioning of human and material resources throughout the organization. Supervises and directs all aspects of patient care, to include providing effective distribution and utilization of personnel with emphasis on staffing for nursing areas by coordinating work schedules and shift coverage. Administrative responsibilities include meeting with Employees management, and Administrators to discuss challenges or patient care issues. Ability to evaluate issues and trends, as well as address and resolve issues collaboratively with hospital Executives. Provides clinical leadership and administrative oversight for assigned shift. Works closely with other leadership roles to ensure a seamless operation in the providing of patient care throughout all departments. Functions as clinician, teacher, patient/family advocate, consultant, leader, and researcher. Utilizes the nursing process in interventions with Employees, family, physicians, inter- and intra-departmental health care providers, and/or community and ensures patient care is provided in accordance to applicable state Nursing Practice Acts, ANA Standards of Practice, and the generic and unit policies and procedures.

    Required Skills

    1. Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.
    2. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
    3. Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
    4. Ability to foster and facilitate working relationships and teams.
    5. Ability to negotiate and resolve conflict.

    Required Experience

    A.    Work Experience 

    Three years experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably in Critical Care or the Emergency Department. One year nursing management experience preferred.

    B.    LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION 

    1. Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas.
    2. Current CPR
    3. PALS and ACLS within 12 months of hire

               

    C.    Education and Training 

    Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing required or completed within three years of being in the position. Master’s degree in Nursing preferred.
