    Cultural Broker Job Overview The Prevention & Aftercare (PnA) program provides strength-based home visitation, case management and navigation services with parents who are at-risk of entering the child protection services system. This is a DCFS funded child abuse prevention program. The Cultural Broker works with families to help them understand the procedure and expectations of DCFS. In addition, they work with DCFS to communicate the strengths of families, cultural norms, and when possible prevent unnecessary removal of children that may occur as a result of cultural misunderstanding. Key Responsibilities Cultural Awareness: Help DCFS workers understand the strengths of the African-American family, community, and cultural norms. Assist families in understanding the culture of DCFS including the role, policies, and procedures in place to protect child safety. Attend DCFS Child Family Team (CFT) meeting to support families. Ensure that families have a clear understanding of DCFS case requirements for family reunification and provide advocacy and support to help clients meet their goals and shorten the time line to family reunification. Conduct outreach and engagement, recruitment, and enrolling of participants. Conduct needs assessment, identify strengths, and collaboratively develop a case plan to help participants define goals. Engage participants in ongoing follow-up and motivation to support their goals. Provide intense Case Management including assistance with housing, benefits, employment, education, transportation, childcare, medical and other services; and assist families in navigating systems. Empathetic support and feedback that is evidence-based, trauma informed, and culturally competent. Co-facilitate and lead evidence-based parenting groups. Maintain confidentiality in compliance with agency, HIPAA and DCFS standards. Responsible for maintenance of client charts and all contact documentation is completed in a timely and accurate manner. Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Bachelors degree preferred Minimum 3 years work experience in case management, field-based services, or other social services working with families with complex needs. Two years experience (or life experience) working with the DCFS child protective services system Willingness to travel to provide field-based services Dependable automobile, California Driver's License, and valid car insurance.
