    Street Outreach Worker/Crisis Responder I - Bayview District Job Overview Street Outreach Workers (SOW) will respond to street violence under the operations of the San Francisco Street Violence Intervention Program, a street outreach and crisis response initiative created to reduce and intervene in youth related street violence for the City and County of San Francisco. San Francisco street violence refers to any severe conflict perpetuated by rival territories which may be initiated by turfs or other street associations rivalry. SOWs will be part of a geographic team responsible for street outreach and crisis intervention in one of the following neighborhoods: Western Addition/ South of Market & Tenderloin, Mission, Bayview-Hunters Point/Potereo Hill and Visitation Valley. This position has a specific emphasis on the Mission District of San Francisco. This job can be dangerous at times and it requires that one be mindful of their safety; not only for themselves, but for the safety of their co-workers. The Street Outreach Worker will be primarily responsible for conducting street outreach, in which they will become more familiar with at-risk youth in the zone they are assigned. They will be shadowing other levels, in order to learn advanced skills, such as group facilitation, mediation and crisis response. Key Responsibilities Outreach Responsibilities: Participate and support in geographic specific program activities, such as neighborhood, after-school and evening canvassing. Assist and support in neighborhood, school and or community conflict mediations. Engage, maintain and track an active caseload of 10 participants that focuses on changing negative street behaviors. Crisis Response Responsibilities: Work collaboratively with the San Francisco Police Department and San Francisco Department of Public Healths Crisis Response Team staff to respond adequately to San Franciscos crisis response system. Act as a buffer between law enforcement and community during a crisis. Assist and support in community vigils. Assist and support DPHs CRT during viewings, funerals and or repasts. May be asked to be on-call, including holidays and weekends, to assist in a crisis. Must be available to work afterhours, holidays and weekends. Public Education and Community Mobilization Responsibilities: Participate in street violence reduction partnerships and community meetings within and across city agencies, other public and private entities, service providers, and additional stakeholders to accomplish defined objectives. Co-facilitate groups/workshops in the community and or school that focus on violence prevention and life skills. Participate and assist in the preparation of peace promotion activities. Prepare and distribute food to promote healthy eating in the communities impacted by violence. Food Distribution On designated days have the necessary supplies, pick-up food from all accounts, food is prepared in a sanitary manner, engage with community, insure sign-sheets and documentation is completed. Program Operation Responsibilities: Successfully perform SFSVIP daily operations and work with assigned geographic team accordingly. Documentation and Compliance: Collect data, document daily and maintain accurate documentation and statistics on client services and produces reports accordingly. And, other duties as assigned Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Education and Experience Required: 1- 3 years of experience working in the field of violence prevention services Experience and knowledge of public health needs and street intervention operations Experience working with Victims of Crime and their immediate and/or extended family Experience working with at-risk and high risk youth and/or young adults in one of the following neighborhoods- Western Addition/ South of Market & Tenderloin, Mission and Visitacion Valley and Bayview-Hunters Point/Potrero Hill Current valid CA drivers license. Must be able to clear HR360 vehicle insurance Must be available after hours holidays and weekends to respond to emergencies, outstanding crisis or events in any San Francisco neighborhood Desired: Associates Degree in Social Work, Public Health, Public Policy, Criminal Justice or closely related field Experience or in depth knowledge of best practices in violence prevention, community empowerment, alternatives to incarceration, youth development and public safety Familiarity with all San Franciscos neighborhoods and community programs preferred Experience collaborating across government agencies and facilitating multi-agency processes Background Clearance Required: Ability to clear and maintain fingerprint clearance Knowledge Required: Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word Outlook and internet applications Integrity to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner Skills and Abilities Required: Ability to work under pressure and in stressful situations.
