    AOD Counselor Job Overview The STEPS (Services To Enhance Parolee Success) program offers assessment, substance use disorder treatment, case management, informational workshops, educational and vocational assistance, safe housing referrals and other essential services to parolees in San Francisco. Key Responsibilities Individual Treatment Responsibilities Facilitates individual counseling sessions with each client on the caseload AOD Counselors will offer clinical support and counseling to assist clients in meeting their treatment goals including providing feedback, setting boundaries, and celebrating successes Conduct and participate in case conferences for each client assigned to the caseload Proactively links clients to both internal and external resources based on their treatment needs and follows up on the progress/status Treatment Setting Responsibilities Facilitates group counseling sessions and teaches classes on various treatment-related topics Performs crisis intervention and communicates with treatment team as unforeseen situations arise Documents client updates and incidents in the facility log daily Performs periodic facility walk-throughs to ensure and maintain the safety and security of the facility AOD Counselors will attend required trainings and meetings Plans and facilitates client celebrations and special events May work weekends and holidays as needed Documentation Responsibilities Collaborates with each caseload client and other available internal and external resources to develop/maintain treatment plans, transition plans, progress notes and appropriate updates in support of the health and recovery needs of the client Properly documents all individual and group counseling sessions and completes the discharge paperwork/process and required agency assessments in timely manner Also, maintains accurate records by data entering documentation into various electronic systems for all caseload clients in accordance with guidelines established by HealthRIGHT 360 to satisfy internal and external evaluating requirements And, other duties as assigned. Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required The Certified AOD Counselor shall possess an Associate of Arts or Associate of Sciences degree from a granting institution accredited by the WASC or equivalent and/or high school diploma or equivalent; and a minimum of three (3) years of full time experience of counseling duties with a criminal justice population in a substance abuse program; and have a Certified AOD Counselor Certification by an agency approved and recognized by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS). Additionally, applicants who have completed the Offender Mentor Certification Program (OMCP) and having obtained AOD Certification may be considered for this position First Aid Certified within 30 days of employment CPR Certified within 30 days of employment A valid California drivers license Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Outlook, and Internet applications Experience working successfully with issues of substance abuse, mental health, criminal background, and other potential barriers to economic self sufficiency Ability to enter data into various electronic systems while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the data Professionalism, punctuality, flexibility and reliability Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills Integrity to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner Action oriented. Strong problem-solving skills Excellent organization skills and ability to multitask and juggle multiple priorities. Outstanding ability to follow-through with tasks Ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of interdisciplinary team and independently assume responsibility Strong initiative and enthusiasm and willingness to pitch in whenever needed Able to communicate well at all levels of the organization including working with organization leadership and high-level representatives of partner organizations Able to work within a frequently changing project scope while maintaining overall direction and structured priorities Desired Bachelors Degree in related field Relevant experience working in residential settings Experience working with a criminal justice population Application of Gender Responsive and Trauma Informed principles and interventions Knowledge of co-occurring disorders and trauma informed treatment Knowledge of Clinical documentation (treatment plans, progress notes etc.) Experience working with criminal justice population Bilingual Click here to apply for this job.
