    Pharmacy Intern PRN POSITION SUMMARY: ** ** APharmacy Intern is an

    individual currently enrolled in a school of pharmacy andhas an interns license through the school. The intern, under the supervisionof the Assistant Director of Pharmacy Services, and/or Lead PharmacyTechnician, and/or Licensed Pharmacist, assists in the various activities ofthe pharmacy department not requiring the professional judgment of thepharmacist. A Pharmacy Intern mayfulfill the responsibilities of a certified technician. Such duties include,but need not be limited to: maintainingpatient records; set up, packaging, and labeling medication doses; filling anddispensing routine orders for stock supplies of patient-care areas; refillingand inventorying automated dispensing machines, maintaining inventories ofmedication supplies; and mixing medications with parenteral fluids. Pharmacy interns may be assigned specialprojects designed to offer additional pharmacy experience. Pharmacy internsmust function in strict accordance with standard, written procedures andguidelines with deviation approved by the supervising pharmacist. Organizational relationships include beingdirectly responsible to the Lead Technician, Pharmacist, Clinical Manager,Assistant Director, and Director of Pharmacy. SPECIFIC ELEMENTS ANDESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS ** ** 1. Processes medication orders or prescriptions, accuratelyand safely compounds medications and/or IV admixtures in acceptable dosageforms, appropriately packages and dispenses pre-manufactured dosage forms. 2. Usesappropriate techniques for storage, preparation, and dispensing of medicinalagents and follows the health systems policies regarding cart fill, unit dosedistribution, medication preparation and labeling, controlled substancesreconciliation, and ensuring that EMT boxes and medications for crash carts arestocked, checked, and ready to be dispensed. 3. Assists in inventory maintenance and control. 4. Assists department in maintaininginventory contained in automated dispensing equipment. 5. Demonstrates teamwork to maximizeoperational efficiencies. 6. Accurately and timely repackages medications forbar-code technology. 7. Completes work activities through effective managementof time, tasks and available resources. Manages own conduct, performance and attitude including time, space andpaper, ethics, attendance and punctuality, and customer focus. **8. Assists in the processing of medications/requisitions tocustomers in an efficient, timely and courteous manner. ** **9. **Performs other duties as assigned or scheduled.
