IOM Tech I Job Ref # 40197 -Location: Houston Methodist Hospital 6565 Fannin St Houston, TX Category:Imaging Services Job Type:Full-Time Work Shift:DAY Work Week:M - F Job Summary 10/2014 The IOM Technologist I is an entry to mid-level position in the department. The IOM Technologist I will perform routine, intraoperative neuromonitoring (IOM) according to hospital and departmental policy and procedures. During IOM procedures for which competence has not been achieved, the IOM Technologist I will train under direct technical supervision. Once training is completed and all required competencies have been achieved, the IOM Technologist I will work under indirect technical supervision. The IOM Tech I must complete a six (6) month training period, complete 150 cases and agrees to study to take the credentialed in neurointraoperative monitoring (CNIM) exam administered by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists, Inc. (ABRET) within two (2) years following IOM start date. When the IOM Tech I is not scheduled for an IOM case, may be asked to perform ambulatory and long term monitoring (LTM) electroencephalograms (EEG), and/or visual, brainstem, and somatosensory evoked potential (EP) procedures and/or monitor epilepsy patients according to hospital and departmental policy and procedures. Direct technical supervision: requires that a IOM Tech II, IOM Tech III, Lead IOM Tech or a physician who performs all technical aspects required for that procedure must be physically present at all times during the procedure. Indirect technical supervision: requires that a IOM Tech II, IOM Tech III, Lead IOM Tech or a physician who performs all technical aspects required for that procedure must be immediately available to provide assistance and direction throughout the procedure. (EF) 2.Performs patient assessment as related to care such as electrode fixation, product allergies, movement restrictions, and cognitive function; knows and recognizes drug and physiological status effects on activity monitored. (EF) 3.Adheres to and demonstrates the components of the ICARE values, AIDET and Service Pride Standards. FINANCE (10%) 1.Submits all reports, billing and other paperwork within a timely manner. QUALITY/SAFETY (35%) 1.Ensures electrode application in adherence with the International 10¿20 System; is knowledgeable in correct IOM, EEG and/or EP performance and recognition of clinically significant events and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results*; maintains the patient¿s safety through communication to other patient care support staff during these procedures as needed. (EF) 2.Understands why and how to maintain correct electrode connections; identifies and performs basic and intermediate technical troubleshooting and artifact identification and elimination; understands and follows concepts of digital equipment and electrical safety with regards to the equipment; has knowledge of alternate montages, protocols, and alternate equipment settings and their effects on the test data. (EF) 3.Is familiar with the policy and procedures for completion of all procedures they perform, charging for procedures, and logging the patient data; contacts supervisory staff as appropriate for problems with the equipment, stocks supplies and prepares patient rooms and equipment for upcoming procedures; performs any other related duties that are consistent with patient and technical care for this level. (EF) 4.Able to efficiently perform all IOM modalities including SSEPs, TceMEP, and EMG (including triggered) with indirect supervision after six month training period. (EF) 5.May be asked to perform EEG studies including bedside studies when there are no scheduled IOM cases. Able to independently perform EEG studies including bedside studies. (EF) 6.May be asked to monitor epilepsy patients when there are no scheduled IOM cases. Able to independently monitor epilepsy monitoring patients. (EF) 7.May be asked to perform EP studies when there are no scheduled IOM cases. Able to independently perform EP studies. GROWTH/INNOVATION (10%) 1.Continues to learn and apply basic and intermediate EEG and/or EP signal recognition, relevant medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, infection control, current HIPPA practices, contraindications for activation procedures, instrumentation and preparation for use. (EF) 2.Trains in IOM procedures for which competence has not been achieved as the schedule allows. (EF) 3.Actively works to complete 150 IOM cases. Completion of an Accredited Electroneurodiagnostic END program or an Associates degree or higher in a science related field from an accredited college or university. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS One year experience in IOM, or a minimum of three years experience in the performance of EEG procedures in a patient care environment and credentialied as an REEGT and/or REPT by the American Board of Registration for EEG and EP Technologists (ABRET) or Canadian Board of Registration of EEG Technologists, Inc. (CBRET). CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) Certification.
