  • Responsibilities

    Janssen Research & Development, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting for a BioTherapeutics Development (BTD) Co-op (Metabolic Modeling) to be based in Malvern, PA. The duration of the co-op in January-June 2019. Janssen Research & Development develops treatments that improve the health and lifestyles of people worldwide. Research and development areas encompass novel targets in neurologic disorders, gastroenterology, oncology, infectious disease, diabetes, hematology, metabolic disorders, immunologic disorders, and reproductive medicine.

     

    The Co-op will support the BTD group, a part of Janssen Research & Development. The BTD organization is responsible for the development of technology used in the large-scale manufacture of pharmaceutical products including active pharmaceutical ingredients, formulations, analytical methods, and devices to enable patient dosing of these pharmaceuticals.

     

    The Biotherapeutics Development Co-op (Metabolic Modeling) will be responsible for:

    • Using various reduced-scale models (shake flasks, Ambr15/250, 5L bioreactors) to perform laboratory experiments to collect data to build and test models of cell metabolism
    • Analyze model and experimental results using analytical and statistical techniques
    • Submitting and tracking samples to measure product quality and cell metabolism
    • Maintain a laboratory notebook and other technical documents according to required guidelines
    • Actively participate in weekly meetings with external collaborators
    • Provide other project support as needed.

  • Qualifications
    • Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college throughout the duration of the co-op.
    • Completion of a minimum of two years towards a BS or pursuing a MS or PhD in Chemical, Biological or Biochemical Engineering; Biochemistry; Molecular Biology; Biotechnology or related science or engineering disciplines is required.
    • Previous co-op or internship experience is preferred.
    • Student must be available from January - June 2019 and have the ability to work full-time during that time.
    • Extensive PC based skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Project and PowerPoint. Minimum 3.2 GPA is preferred. Local travel may be required.
    • Students must be able to provide their own transportation to/from their work location.
    • Students must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require future sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H1-B status) now or in the future.Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a BS or MS in Chemical, Biological or Biomedical Engineering; Biochemistry; Molecular Biology or related science or engineering discipline
    • Candidates must be detail-oriented, highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks.
    • Candidates must have the ability to work individually (independently) as well as on a team.
    • Candidates with academic and/or industrial clinical trial experience are strongly preferred.
