Mental Health Counselor IHCCS, Inc - Norfolk, VA Mental Health Skills Building (MHSB) Counselor working with adults with mental health and/or substance abuse diagnoses who also has experience working with youth. Job entails assisting clients with improving overall functioning in the home and community with the goal of the client being able to live independently or with semi-independently (minimal assistance in the home). The clients may have educational and communication deficits that interfere with their being able to seek and/or maintain needed assistance (financial or otherwise) from various human services, social services, and behavioral health services agencies including the SSA. Clients may also need assistance with education about and assistance with ADL, budgeting, medication management and making and coordination of various medical and behavioral health appointments. MHSB Counselor would act as advocate for and to a degree, spokesperson for the clients that he or she would work with. Must possess excellent writing and communication skills with an emphasis on attention to detail and completing required paperwork ahead of schedule or on time. Must be reliable. Must be able to work well independently (while in the field or making home visits). Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or similar degree with 3 to 5 years of experience or a Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or similar degree with 1 to 3 years of experience. Potential to earn supervision towards licensure for candidates with a master's degree. CPR/1st Aid Certification required and can be provided by employer.
