    OVERVIEW:

    The Instruments R&D Engineering intern will support the instruments team in developing, manufacturing, and testing novel sensor-instrumented, electromechanical medical devices for use with Auris’ robotic platform. By combining advancements in medical robotics, instrumentation, navigation, and data science, Auris is building a platform technology capable of expanding the applicability of robotics to a spectrum of medical procedures. The position is available during the summer recess for up to 3 months duration. The schedule is flexible to accommodate college semester/trimester calendars.

    CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • As a member of the Instruments R&D team, you will support the design, manufacture and testing of instrumented medical devices.
    • Working with a mentor, the engineering intern will be assigned at least one specific project in a specialized area of research, in addition to contributing to broader projects and goals daily.
    • These responsibilities may include test method development, fixture design, 3D printing, testing, data analysis, programming, manufacturing, writing test protocols and reports.
    • Work closely with senior engineers, designers, technicians, and machinists.
    • Provide design, manufacturing, and test solutions in a fast-paced environment with a quick development cycle.
    • Must be capable of working independently and in a team while being flexible, self-motivated, enthusiastic, curious, and willing to revolutionize the world of medical robotics.
    • Must be capable of working on site.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Currently enrolled in a Undergraduate, Master’s or PhD graduate Engineering or Physics program, or equivalent.
    • Basic experience in CAD such as SolidWorks (preferred), experimental methods, data analysis, computation and data acquisition, technical writing.
    • Hands-on engineering and problem-solving with the proven ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Aside from basic office equipment, the engineering lab contains specialized test equipment and materials.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear in moderately loud environments and operate machinery and test equipment.

    POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

    This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are flexible Monday through Friday, generally 8-8:30 a.m. to 5-5:30 p.m.

    Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Candidate must be capable of working on site in Redwood City as well as working remotely from home for limited hours as needed. There is no relocation or stipend associated with this position.
