While some patient consultation is involved, the Laboratory Genetic Counselor primarily functions both independently and as an IPG team member in supporting development, implementation, and quality review of clinical genetic testing. Essential Job Duties -1. Educates ordering providers on genetic testing options, insurance and billing matters, test results, and medical management. -2. Provides patient education and counseling regarding genetic test results. -3. Works with scientific team members to develop new genetic test offerings, optimize genetic testing workflow processes, classify DNA variants, develop test report language/templates, and review pre-finalized test reports for lab/medical director sign out. -4. Conducts utilization review to determine proper test ordering by provider and manage high priority or complex cases. -5. Assists marketing team in developing marketing, sales, and provider and patient education materials. -6. Participates in individual and team directed research projects with opportunities to present findings at professional meetings. Prepares manuscripts for submission to professional journals. -7. Communicates clearly and directly in verbal and written form to providers and patients. -8. Participates in peer review by providing and receiving objective and constructive feedback with peers. Posting Specifics -Full time, 40 hours per week -Benefits Eligible Minimum Requirements -Master's degree in Genetic Counseling, or current enrollment in a program with anticipated graduation in 2019. Education must be obtained from an accredited program. Degree will be verified. -Eligibility for certification by the American Board of Genetic Counselors (ABGC) at time of hire with completion of certification required within one year of hire. -Licensed as a Genetic Counselor in the state of practice. -Ability to work independently and as part of a team. -Experience in reading, interpreting, and critical evaluation of scientific literature. -Experience using PowerPoint, word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet, e-mail, and scheduling. -Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Physical Requirements -Interact with others requiring employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information. -Operate computers, telephones, office equipment, and manipulate paper requiring the ability to move fingers and hands. -See and read computer monitors and documents. -Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment. Preferred Requirements -Certification by the American Board of Genetic Counselors (ABGC). -Three years of experience as a clinical or laboratory Genetic Counselor. -Experience in project management, grant application submission, publication of abstracts for academic meetings, and journal article publication. -Demonstrated knowledge of genetic diagnostic technology, human mutation databases, genome browsers, and HGVS nomenclature.
