Overview: Thisunpaidinternship provides a learning opportunity for a student to work with a leading Cardiopulmonary Rehab organization. The Intern supports the rehab staff as they prescribe and oversee exercise for patients who have suffered recent Cardiac Events (Myocardial Infarction, Stents, CABG, Heart Valve surgery, etc.) We also work with patients suffering from a variety of lung issues such as COPD, Asthma, Lung Cancer, Interstitial Lung Disease, etc. This is anunpaidinternship opportunity. Applicant must be a student in an accredited school or a program that will allow them to obtain university/college credit for an internship class. The selected intern will begin fall semester (January - May 2019). Students participate in their internship hours partor-full-time, depending on their schedule and number of clinical hours required. The internship experience will be based at the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah. Experiences available: Under direct supervision and in accordance with the students school syllabus as required by the students school program: 1. Assist rehab staff as they administer and supervise exercise for heart and lung patients as they enter the rehab gym. 2. Assist in educating patients on cardiac risk factors and current exercise guidelines and attaching telemetry lead wires to each patient. 3. Become proficient in measuring blood pressures, both at rest and during exercise. 4. Gain knowledge of various cardiac and pulmonary procedures and participate in daily functions of the rehab department. By the end of the internship, the student will have experienced most aspects of a cardiopulmonary rehab center. 5. Have the opportunity to learn how to interpret 12-lead EKGs. 6. View and learn about other procedures in the hospital, such as cath lab procedures. Criteria for selection: 1. Students in exercise physiology or exercise science, who are in an undergrad or masters program at an accredited institution and who are required by their school to perform an internship. 2. Students who are interested in completing a hands-on, interactive internship designed to prepare them to work in a cardiopulmonary rehab program. 3. Strong communication skills. 4.
