    Pathology Technician II or III12/31/18LaboratoryFull TimeGreater Ogden & North Davis areaMcKay-Dee Hospital -Job ID:224999 -Greater Ogden & North Davis area -About Us -Job Description Non-Pathologist personnel used to assist surgical pathologists by performing gross dissection and description of human tissue specimens received into the laboratory. The grossing technician functions as the eyes of the pathologist for the macroscopic examination of the tissue specimen. This enables the pathologist to focus more of their time on microscopic examination of the diagnosis and finalizing pathology reports and getting results out to the clinician in a timely manner. May function as laboratory coordinator overseeing the daily operations of the Pathology Tissue room(s) and staff. Essential Job Duties -Performs macroscopic tissue examination on specimens (as outlined below) under direct supervision until deemed competent. Once deemed competent, grossing will be performed under indirect supervision, unless specified otherwise by the Laboratory Medical Director: -a) Level 1: Small single specimen bx's (lung, liver, GI, prostate), nail, polyp, vas deferens, fallopian tube, endometrial and endocervical currettings. -b) Level 2 - in addition to level 1: Bone Marrow bx, unoriented cones, skins (shaves, punches, unoriented ellipses and tags), sinus contents, neuroma, lipoma, cyst, breast needle cores, and multiple part prostate needle kits. -c) Level 3 - in addition to level 2: Appendices, gall bladders, breast mass (< 3cm), oriented cones, oriented skins, disc, heart valve, hydrocele, POC, soft tissue bx (< 5cm), tonsils and TURP. -d) Level 4: Amputations (non-cancerous), breast reduction, fibroids, hernia sac, lymph nodes in formalin, placenta and placenta (multiple gestation). -Identifies and corrects errors and is actively involved in troubleshooting problems and oversees that departmental laboratory policies and procedures are adhered to. -May be assigned managerial tasks which include, but not limited to: -a) Develops and implements laboratory procedures -b) Employee training, grossing procedures -c) Monitors laboratory quality indicators and reports results -Assists in autopsy procedures, including eviscerations. Posting Specifics -Entry Rate: $22.72 -Benefits Eligible: Yes -Shift Details: Full time -Department: Laboratory Anatomic Pathology -Additional Details:Position may be filled by a Pathology Tech II - Entry rate - $18.78/hr -Associates degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or Two years post high school education in a laboratory, physical, chemical or biological science with: -a) 24 semester hours of medical laboratory science courses; or or b) 24 semester hours of science courses that include: -(i) Six semester hours of chemistry -(ii) Six semester hours of biology, and -(iii)Twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory science in any combination. -Plus all of the following: -One year pathology experience -Good communication skills -Knowledge of laboratory information systems Minimum Requirements - Pathology Technician III -Baccalaureate degree, from an accredited institution, in a laboratory, physical, chemical, or biological science (education is verified), with 24 semester hours of medical laboratory science courses. or Baccalaureate degree, from an accredited institution, in a laboratory, physical, chemical, or biological science (education is verified), with 24 semester hours of science courses, that include 1) six semester hours of chemistry, and 2) six semester hours of biology, and 3) twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination. -Demonstrated good communication skills. -Two years of pathology experience. Physical Requirements -Interact with others requiring the employee to verbally communicate information. -Operate computers and complex and delicate lab equipment requiring the ability to move fingers and hands. -See and read lab equipment, monitors, and documents. -Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer or other equipment.
