    3406 Requisition ID: req1272 Job Title: Food and Farming Work Readiness Intern Sector: Food Security Employment Category: Intern Employment Type: Part-Time Location: USA-San Diego, CA Job Description LOCATION: City Heights Office START DATE: June 2018 DURATION: 11 Weeks, 20 37.5 hours per week POSITION: Unpaid BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the worlds worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 27 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. Domestically, our 27 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency. SCOPE OF INTERNS WORK: The Work Readiness (WR) Intern will support IRCs refugee, immigrant and low-income community participants in the Project CHOP and Youth FarmWorks projects. Both projects are paid, on-the-job training and work readiness programs. The WR Intern will provide individual and group training to the program participants on a number of key work readiness topics including: English verbal and written skills, on-the-job communication, job interview preparation, resume building. RESPONSIBILITIES: · Provide English lessons and interview preparation trainings to Project CHOP participants · Provide public speaking and job interview training to Youth FarmWorks participants · Conduct mock interviews for program participants · Conduct, track and enter the data for in regular Project CHOP and Youth FarmWorks client assessments · Provide operational support to Youth FarmWorks and Project CHOP, as needed LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. Intern will gain a deeper understanding of employment challenges and barriers for refugees, immigrants and low-income communities; social enterprise; and community food projects. 2. Intern will receive training and acquire knowledge of conducting work readiness trainings and working with refugee, immigrant and low-income youth and women, in particular. 3. Intern will develop improved teaching skills and greater cultural competency working with varied populations. Qualifications · Currently enrolled in a Master of Arts program in Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Social Work, Education or other relevant field · Must be a clear, patient and articulate communicator (written and oral) · Strong interpersonal skills are essential; must be a self-aware team player · Must enjoy teaching and coaching others · Must be able to multi-task, be flexible and quick on ones feet · Minimum availability: 20 hours per week · Must have an independent and reliable of auto transportation · Must be punctual and dependable (regular attendance is required) · Must be available to work Saturday or evenings, on occasion · Must be able to work in a commercial kitchen, standing for long periods of time, and outdoors in an urban farm and farmers market This position reports to the Senior Program Manager, Food and Farming IRC leading the way From Harm To Home. ]]> 1272 USA-San Diego, CA
