    20592 Requisition ID: req3523 Job Title: RYSA Hiring and Student Recruitment Intern Sector: Education Employment Category: Intern Employment Type: Part-Time Location: USA-New York, NY - USP Job Description BACKGROUND: The staff of the IRC New York Regional office work as a team to provide comprehensive resettlement services- including case management, employment and immigration services- to newly arrived refugees, asylees, and other immigrant populations as they begin to rebuild their lives in the New York City metropolitan area. Since its inception in 1999, the Refugee Youth Program has developed partnerships with New York City public schools, community-based organizations and local colleges and universities to provide refugee and immigrant youth with year-round academic support, literacy training, and enrichment activities. SCOPE OF WORK: The Refugee Youth Summer Academy (RYSA) is a six-week program focusing on preparing newly arrived refugee youth to succeed at their grade level in the New York City public school system. Up to 130 students ages 5 21 from over 20 countries will participate in academic, creative arts, physical education, and social emotional learning classes. Nearly 90 staff and volunteers join the IRC each summer to support student learning at RYSA. RYSA Hiring and Student Recruitment Intern will collaborate closely with the Youth Programs Supervisor to support the recruitment and hiring processes for the Refugee Youth Summer Academy. She/he will support the administrative organization of the Youth Program, ensuring that program files and materials are kept in the best condition. The internship is a semester-long position and reports to the Youth Programs Supervisor. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: · Operationalize and monitor recruitment and hiring processes for the Refugee Youth Summer Academy, including: o Manage online job postings o Review job applications and resumes o Communicate with applicants o Schedule interviews o Collect references o Process new hire paperwork · Assist with student recruitment, including: o Communicate with referring agencies and schools o Coordinate intake appointments, conduct intake interviews o Create and Review paper files to ensure compliance with IRC standards o Upload documents to online data management system o Assist with filing client materials. · Other duties as assigned. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: The Youth Programs Operations Intern will 1. Learn about the various management responsibilities of a complex educational program. 2. Learn how to manage a large scale hiring process for more than 60 positions from the initial application stage to finalizing hiring paperwork 3. Develop skills in building rapport with newly arrived immigrant students and their families Qualifications § Minimum rising senior in college, recent graduate preferred with degree in relevant field (e.g. Management, Education, Social Work) § Experience working in education or youth development, preferably with refugee or immigrant youth preferred § Proficient in Microsoft computer applications, especially Microsoft Excel, as well as internet research § Close attention to detail § Ability to take initiative and problem-solve effectively regarding time sensitive matters § Cross-cultural or overseas experience § Strong leadership skills, supervisory experience a plus § Strong interpersonal, and communication (verbal and written) skills § Fluency in a second language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Burmese, Farsi, Wolof, Fulani, Tibetan, Mandingo or Russian) a plus. § Availability to work 15 hours per week, preference given to candidates with greater availability. ]]> 3523 USA-New York, NY - USP
