Janssen Research & Development, L.L.C., a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, is recruiting two 3-month intern students in 2018 for Biologics Development Sciences (BDS) to be based in Spring House, PA. Janssen Research & Development (Johnson & Johnson), L.L.C., develops treatments that improve the health and lifestyles of people worldwide. Research and development areas encompass novel targets in neurologic disorders, gastroenterology, oncology, infectious disease, diabetes, hematology, metabolic disorders, immunologic disorders, and reproductive medicine.

The intern students will support the BDS group, a part of Janssen BioTherapeutics, specifically within the Drug Metabolism Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) Method Development group. The DMPK Method Development group is responsible for the development of biochemical and immunological assays in which ultimately determine the pharmacokinetic profile of the biologic drug in vivo. The student will learn and aid in the DMPK method development processes utilizing varying bioanalytical technologies and platforms.

The project will aim to cover both current and promising new practices within DMPK Method Development group to explore potential process improvements thus making development time more efficient and strive towards high throughput bioanalysis to support preclinical and clinical studies. The project will also integrate automated liquid handling and streamlined data analysis.

1st Intern:

• GRIP assay alternate Reagent evaluation – GRIP assay performance evaluation with the alternative anti-Human Fc reagent to determine potential replacement to the current mouse anti-human R10Fc.
• Curve Fitting model applied to Historical PK assays - Non-clinal and Clinical Qualification and validation Assay data applied to the model/workflow generated by Statistics group to determine if one simplest fit would be sufficient for most of future PK assay development.

2nd Intern:

• Use of MSIA/IMCS/Phynexus technology to simplify the Immunoaffinity workflows for Mass spectrometry for characterizing biologics in serum – Partially/fully automated workflow would result in efficient and reproducible data analysis.

• Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college throughout the duration of the internship.
• Completion of a minimum of two years towards a BS in Chemical or Biochemical Engineering; Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry; Biology; Biochemistry; Molecular Biology; Biotechnology; Microbiology or related science or engineering disciplines is required.
• Previous co-op or internship experience is preferred.
• Student must be available in 2018 and have the ability to work full-time during the duration of the internship.
• Extensive PC based skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Project and PowerPoint. Additional knowledge of inventory management and data processing such as Watson/LIMS is preferred.
• Minimum 3.2 GPA is preferred.
• Students must be able to provide their own transportation to/from their work location.
