    Marriage & Family Counselor Intern - Adolescent Psychiatric Services-

    Outpatient - Per Diem - 6 hour - Days Job Overview Under the direction of the Director of Center for Recovery, provides individual, group, family counseling and case management services for the Chemical Dependency Outpatient Program. Participates in providing counseling and program treatment to patients and families who have alcoholism and other chemical addictions. Integrates chemical dependency treatment, individual and group counseling to support comprehensive case management of patients. Helps orient patients and their families to the treatment program and encourages their active participation. Provides direct chemical dependency treatment that is therapeutically effective and promotes patient safety and welfare. Conducts treatment in a manner that is consistent with the written philosophy and objectives of the Center for Recovery and the Hospital. Communicates information effectively with supervisor and other team members. Provides psychotherapy to patients as indicated and under current supervision and as a registered intern. Essential Functions Therapeutic Services * Assumes responsibility for the management of a caseload of patients: assessment, treatment planning, coordination of care, documentation, communication and discharge planning. * Demonstrates competency in biopsychosocial assessments. Integrated assessments are thorough, contain required JCHO information and are completed within 3 days of admission * Treatment plans are individualized and measurable. Treatment updates are timely and appropriate to reflect changing conditions of patient and documented. * Provides care via lectures, 1:1s and communicates effectively with team members to reach desired outcomes. * EHR documentation is objective, descriptive and compliant with CFR policy and procedures * Meets with assigned patient to establish individual treatment planning, address issues in treatment to support positive outcomes and discharge planning * Provide family meeting with patient to establish continuity of care, demonstrating knowledge of family systems and dynamics. * Conducts group sessions under supervision of licensed clinician with patients, keeping focus on the addiction issues and documents patient participation. * Demonstrates knowledge of group dynamics, group interaction, and skill in group facilitation, staying disease focused and prompting the group to work with each other. * Provides 1:1 psychotherapy, under the supervision of licensed clinician to patients in need of this additional intervention while in treatment. Dual Diagnosis patients needing psychotherapy to support mental health while integrating early recovery Therapeutic Boundaries and Professionalism * Adheres to and supports the Therapeutic Relation and Ethical Conduct policy. * Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own behavior and maintains appropriate boundaries with patients and peers. * Exhibits positive and professional attitude toward patients, peers and supervisors. Remains calm, positive and constructive when working with difficult issues, difficult people and/or change. * Utilizes departmental chain of command to solve problems, make suggestions and air grievances or complaints. * Maintains strict patient confidentiality. * Reports any realized Privacy Breach immediately to Department Director Standards of Professional Performance * Practice Evaluation Evaluates own practice in relation to standards, statutes, and regulations. * Compliant with policies and procedures, laws, regulatory and accrediting standards, including TJC, CDPH, and BRN. * Engages in self-evaluation, identifies strengths, opportunities for improvement, sets and achieves realistic goals. * Is open & receptive to feedback from peers and supervisors. * Participates in peer review, provides colleagues with formal or informal constructive feedback. Ethical Practice and Privacy * Adheres to the Patient Bill of Rights, JMH Values and Goals. * Delivers care in a manner that preserves privacy, autonomy, dignity, rights, and honors the uniqueness of the individual. * Identifies and appropriately refers cases to Ethics Committee. Participates in resolving ethical issues. * Takes appropriate action regarding illegal, inappropriate, or unethical behavior Work Rules and Practices * Works within the framework of John Muir Health and department policies and procedures. * Adheres to John Muir Health and department policies and procedures regarding sick time, attendance, rest and meal breaks, standards of professional appearance, and safety.

    • Master's Degree Counseling or Psychology - Required * 2 years Behavioral Health, Healthcare - Acute Care and Ambulatory - Preferred * Active Intern Registration - Required * BLS - Basic Life Support - Certification - Required * Working knowledge of the 12 Step Program.
