    Johnson & Johnson, Robotics and Digital (RAD) Solutions is recruiting for a Staff Mechanical Simulation Engineer located in Santa Clara, CA. Robotics and Digital Solutions, is part of Johnson & Johnson Med Tech. At Johnson & Johnson Robotics and Digital Solutions, we're changing the trajectory of health for humanity, using robotics to enhance healthcare providers' abilities and improve patients' diagnoses, treatments, and recovery times. Johnson & Johnson Robotics was established in 2020 with the integration of Auris Health, Verb Surgical, C-SATS, and Ethicon. It comprises three key med-tech platforms: Flexible Robotics (MONARCH®), Surgical Robotics (OTTAVA™), and Digital Solutions. The Staff Mechanical Simulation Engineer will work with other members of the Robotics and Digital Solutions team to analyze complex mechanisms, simulate structural but lightweight assemblies, motor driven actuators, and motion transmissions. This role will be part of HW Simulation/Analysis team which executes simulation analysis through conceptual and detailed FE analysis, related documentation, and design specifications, and reports to Manager HW Simulation/Analysis. Your work will be focused on deriving and simulating innovative designs based on user needs and product requirements! Key team interfaces include electrical engineering, robot controls, system integration, testing, external vendors, and internal manufacturing groups. You will contribute to the development of a complex robotic medical platform. Core Job Responsibilities:

    • Demonstrated ability to function as a technical contributor with demonstrated technical leadership.
    • Proven experience with complex mechanisms and automation. Expertise in Finite Element Analysis using ANSYS. Proficiency in applying advanced mathematical concepts to analyze and optimize detailed mechanisms.
    • Proficiency in thermal modeling and simulation using Computation Fluid Dynamics tools such as ANSYS Fluent or equivalent
    • Build FEA and thermal/CFD models from scratch, working alongside design engineers across multiple subject areas.
    • Provide hands-on troubleshooting, process, and engineering assistance in support of a rapid development cycle.
    • Strong understanding of dynamics and vibration analysis, including modal analysis, modal testing, and dynamically induced vibration analysis for multi-body systems.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in material characterization (linear and non-linear), model verification and validation activities
    • Analyze very large data using advanced data analysis techniques and statistical tools
    • Good knowledge of GD&T and tolerance analyses
    • Excellent documentation practices with the ability to convey data in a meaningful way.
    • Ability and willingness to work through all phases of product development from conceptualization to production.
    • Design solutions within a quick development cycle, and support those designs with prototype, analysis, and testing results.
    • Establish and take ownership for subsystem test strategy for root cause analysis and simulation verification/validation.
    • Be a positive, collaborative team member with a good honest work ethic.
    • Collaborate with cross-departmental engineering teams as needed to complete projects

    QUALIFICATIONS Education & Required Skills/Experience

    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree with 5+ years of proven experience building complex multi-physics simulation models with ANSYS.
    • Proficiency with various simulation types: static, dynamic, thermal, linear and non-linear analysis on assemblies ranging from 3 to 100 parts.
    • Demonstrated excellence in the simulation of motors, gears, lead-screws, splines, cams, linear guides, belts, bearing & pulleys.
    • Proficiency in crafting static, quasi-static, implicit and explicit dynamic models that accurately predict real world testing.
    • Mechanical analysis experience including statics, dynamics, kinematics, strength of materials, thermal management, and stress analysis.
    • Proven experience understanding manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal, casting, injection molding, and 3D printing.
    • Capable of making drawings following standard methodologies from AMSE Y14.5-2009 Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
    • Coding / scripting experience using MATLAB, python or equivalent
    • Proficiency in CAD tools such as Solidworks and experience with designing and building electro-mechanical components/assemblies.
    • Excellent written & verbal communication and presentation skills.
    • Consistent track record working well in a team environment, learning from others, as well as mentoring junior team members.

    Preferred Skills & Experience

    • Prior mechanical engineering experience at Senior or Staff level with electro-mechanical systems.
    • Previous engineering experience in the design and development of medical device robotics or complex electro-mechanical mechanisms and motors.
    • Electro-magnetics simulation/analysis experience using ANSYS for electro-mechanical systems
    • Experience working in an ISO and FDA regulated environment.

    • This position is located in Santa Clara, CA and requires up to 25% (Domestic/International) travel
