reviews - Honolulu, HI Full-time, Part-time The Preschool Teacher is
responsible, under the direction of the Center Director, for overseeing
the operations in a class room. May be floating, part time or full time.
Responsible, under the supervision of the Center Director, for
establishing and implementing goals and objectives meeting a
developmentally appropriate 3's and/or 4's curriculum as well as being
sensitive to individual needs of the group; to establish and maintain
regular, ongoing communications with parents; maintaining positive,
nurturing attitude towards each individual child; and utmost, ensuring
the health and safety of the children in the care of KCAA. Additional
responsibilities include: implementing creative teaching techniques in
guiding children in developing basic skills, a high degree of
self-discipline, good physical, social and mental habits; submitting
educational supplies and excursion requests needed to maintain class
program; accurately and timely completing all necessary records and
reports as required; improving teaching methods and professional
competency. Curriculum Planning and Implementation * Is knowledgeable of
Diane Trister Dodge's "Creative Curriculum" and successfully
demonstrates implementation of her concepts in the curriculum design of
the class program; implements the Creative Curriculum assessment cycle,
including meeting the deadlines for the Fall and Spring checkpoints.
Pre-K teachers are also responsible for being knowledgeable of the
Scholastic Pre-K Curriculum and successfully demonstrating
implementation of the concepts in the curriculum design of the class
program. * Develops goals and objectives for 3 and 4 year-olds based
upon an educated understanding of children's skills/abilities in the
social, emotional, physical, aesthetic and cognitive develop-mental
stages and health/safety considerations. * Uses goals and objectives as
the framework to developing a daily, weekly, monthly activity schedule
and routines. * Ensures that the day's activities are prepared prior to
children's arrival. * Presents a program that enhances children's
imagination and creativity. * Plans and implements a developmentally
appropriate curriculum which is age and individual appropriate in the
areas of: self-help skills, sensory (sand/water, etc.), cognitive,
open-ended questions, fine motor, language, blocks, toys and games,
gross motor, music/movement, cooking, dramatic play, work jobs, library,
art * discovery, computers (if available), outdoors * Pre-K teachers are
responsible for providing appropriate areas for the implementation of
the Scholastic curriculum including: writing, math, and science. Creates
Supportive Learning Environment * Greets children and their parents
warmly and enthusiastically upon arrival and at departure. * Projects a
positive, loving, nurturing attitude towards each individual child by: *
Providing nurturance and stimulation. * Modeling respect for children
and responding to their needs in caring ways. * Supporting toileting
skills through positive reinforcements. * Helping children to feel
secure with teacher and the environment. * Encouraging children to
problem-solve their own problems. * Interacting closely and lovingly
with children. * Utilizing positive guidance techniques to manage child
behavior. * Plans, organizes and maintains a FUN and nurturing, relaxed
classroom environment that supports KCAA's philosophy and goals. *
Maintains a balance of emphasis between the indoor, outdoor, active and
passive activities within the classroom. Assesses Students Progress *
Assesses children's progress/growth through regular individual
observations and documentation. * Adjusts program, as needed; seeking
outside professional consultation, as needed. * Establishes and
maintains regular exchange of information with parents or guardians
about their child regarding issues such as the child's health,
development or behaviorand progress related to the curriculum in a
direct, confidential, professional and prompt manner through at least
two scheduled parent-teacher conferences, posted Daily Activity Reports
informing families of the day's activities, upcoming events and other
miscellaneous information, and/or through short, informal conversations
at time of drop-off or pick-ups. * Articulates children's progress
and/or problems/concerns in a timely manner to the Center Director,
administrative directors and/or other school faculty and staff members,
as is deemed appropriate, to ensure cooperation, collaboration and
assistance in best meeting children's needs. Completes Documentation *
Accurately maintains and timely submits required paperwork, e.g.: *
Child's portfolio assessment to include child's work, developmental
records, parents' comments, etc. * Anecdotal records based on assessment
criteria, done on a weekly basis * Daily and monthly attendance sheets *
Accident reports * Children of Concern reports, as needed * Children's
Emergency Cards * Daily Activity Reports to parents * Weekly Lesson Plan
Book * Developmental Assessment Reports, e.g. New Child Report, Spring
Report * New Child form for parents Ensure Safety and Health of Students
- Ensures the health and safety of the children through active
supervision and interaction with children all day, i.e.
indoors/outdoors/off campus on excursions. * Is responsible for the
overall cleanliness and orderliness of the classroom area. * Is alert to
physical plant maintenance needs and timely reports in writing repairs
needed. Ensure Compliance with School Operating Procedures *
Participates in the meal service program, as directed by the Center
Director, e.g. monitoring childrens participation for USDA meal count
logs, modeling polite table manners for children to follow, assisting
children in cleaning their spills, etc. * Follows DOH and DHS health
practices in assisting children with toileting, e.g.: * Monitors
children's behavior, providing guidance in adopting health practices
such as flushing and washing hands with soap after every use * Wears
disposable gloves provided by KCAA in handling accidents: bags, securely
seals and labels the bag of all soiled clothing for parent(s) to take
home at the end of the school day * Immediately sanitizes all areas
where accidents have occurred * Safely disposes all contaminated
materials per KCAA prescribed practice * Schedules a "bathroom break"
for all children every 1 - 2 hour intervals * Follows NAEYC guidelines
for developmentally appropriate practices for preschoolers. Marginal
Functions * In the absence of the center director at any given school,
may be asked to assume certain based on management needs. * Performs
other duties as assigned. A. Education/Experience Requirements * Must
have a college degree or certificate from an accredited institution *
Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education, or, an associates degree
in Early Childhood Education * Minimum of 6 months experience working
with young children under the age of 7; or, Child Development Associate
certificate with 36 credits in Early Childhood Education and 1 year
experience working with young children under the age of 7. * Bachelors
degree in Elementary Education, Special Education or related field with
a minimum of 12 credits in child development or early childhood
education plus a minimum of 6 months experience working with young
children under the age of 7 will be considered. B. Technical Skills
Required * Highly proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; familiarity
with Gmail is beneficial. * Must have reliable transportation and a
valid drivers license with a safe and responsible driving record. * Must
successfully pass DHS Criminal History Check and all subsequent annual
checks, as required. * Must successfully complete KCAA Orientation
Program. C. Interpersonal Skills * Must be a mature-minded person who is
able to work well with others in a team environment. * Very accurate,
thorough, flexible. * Promotes and maintains excellent relations with
both internal and external customers. Is accurate, thorough and
efficient. * Has a positive attitude and flexibility to perform out of

with multi-level personnel within the organization and with the
community at large. * Must demonstrate the ability to understand and
follow complex oral and written instructions; an ability to write
legibly. E. Physical Demands/Work Environment. Must be able to: * Lift,
push, pull or carry 50 pounds without assistance and/or have the ability
to assess the weight in order to ask for necessary assistance or to
determine a safer method of moving the load. * Have vision correctable
to 20/20. * Climb, as needed, up to heights no higher than 6 feet off
the ground. * Move with agility over and under children and objects; to
climb, as needed, up to heights no higher than 6 feet off the ground; to
get down to child's level by either kneeling, sitting, crouching or
stooping. * Tolerate exposure to sunlight over a period of time not
exceeding one hour. * Have the abilities to prioritize demands, juggle
