    EKG Tech 1. **Job Summary / Job Purpose ** --- The Electrocardiograph Technician is responsible for administering EKG tests on patients, by preparing, operating, and maintaining electrocardiograph machines, which measure and record the activity of the heart and its rate in patients. EKG results are used by physicians and other health care professionals to diagnose and treat medical conditions. 1. **Key Responsibilities ** * Questions the patient, to gather medical history, and to determine the presence of factors likely to affect the recording system. * Instructs patients regarding procedures, and makes the patient feel comfortable about the process, to maximize patient comfort and cooperation. * Attaches electrodes to the patient at specific points, following established procedures to produce results with the best quality. * Reviews recording from each electrode for clarity and deviations from the norm. * Monitors pulse rate, blood pressure, body temperature and ECG changes while the patient undergoes diagnostic tests; documents all applicable patient and procedure data. * Identifies artifacts (conditions such as patient movements, poor electrode contact, or defective apparatus which affect the wave tracings). * Communicates patient information in a professional and courteous manner to patients, physicians, and medical staff as required. * Calibrates/adjusts and maintains the EKG equipment, and orders supplies when needed. * Sanitizes the room and equipment before every procedure. * Prepares and maintains required records, logs, and reports. * Performs other duties as assigned. 1. **Job Requirements / Qualifications ** --- 1. Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred): * High school diploma or equivalent. * Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required * Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) or Certified EKG Technician (CET) preferred. 1.
