responsible for the nursing care of patients under the direction and
supervision of the Registered Nurse Preceptor as well as implementation
and documentation of the delegated and/or supervised cares of all
assigned patients according to established procedures. Cares are in
accordance with assigned tasks and permitted by the Nursing Skills
Checklist. The student intern cares for patients with a variety of acute
to critical medical/surgical problems ranging from neonates to
geriatrics at various developmental levels. Patients are from both
traditional and nontraditional family structures with a variety of
sociocultural and educational backgrounds. Key Job Responsibilities
- Implements the steps of the nursing process (i.e. assessment,
planning, intervention, and evaluation) when providing direct patient
care a level consistent with education and within Student Nurse Interns
duties and responsibilities. 2. Contributes to the assessment of health
status of individuals including interactions of individuals with family
members or group members. 3. Contributes to establishment of nursing
diagnoses which identify(ies) the needs of the client/patient. 4.
Responds to patient calls, anticipates patient needs, and assures
patient safety and comfort through hourly rounding, environmental
maintence and other appropriate safety measures. 5. Contributes in the
development of the plan of care for individuals. 6. Performs and workds
to ensure safe, knowledgeable, age-specific patient care. 7. Authorized
to make entries in the medical record, consistent with and limited to
scope of job duties and applicable licensure. 8. Performs other related
job duties as assigned or requested. Required Education Minimum of
completion of junior year as student in an accredited Baccalaureate
Nursing Program; actively enrolled and in good standing. Required
License and Certifications BLS or BLS instructor certification
required upon hire. Refer to policy Licensed, Certified, and Registered
Employees for acceptable life support cards. Required/Minimum
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of nursing theory and practice
acquired through successful completion of equivalent of junior year of
Baccalaureate nursing curriculum. Interpersonal skills necessary in
order to gather and exchange information with preceptor, co-workers,
physicians, patient family, visitors and other hospital personnel.
Analytical skills necessary to develop and implement effective nursing
care and beginning problem-solving measures for patients physical,
psychosocial, and spiritual well-being. Ability to concentrate and pay
attention to detail when planning and implementing nursing care,
resolving patient care problems, and communicating with patients and
families. Preferred Qualifications Active state registry as a Nurse
