    POSITION DETAILS

     

    Stewards Individual Placements Program (Stewards) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. Stewards in partnership with Pinnacles National Park are seeking an intern who will help implement an ongoing habitat restoration project, especially focused on outreach and communication of the project, and help as needed on other restoration activities. This position will emphasize public outreach and communication materials, restoration data analysis, and research.

     

    The intern will help with entering and reviewing project data, researching similar restoration projects, reviewing or taking photographs or videos showing the research being done on site, and using this information to conduct public outreach through multiple mediums including developing handouts and displays, creating video content, and leading walks and talks. This project can be done partly remotely, though some on site work is desired. Additional restoration related activities could include field data collection, seed collection, or invasive weed management, as needed. Intern will work with the Vegetation Ecologist as well as other biologists and interns, the Chief of Interpretation and park research partners. Intern will build skills in communication and outreach, visual media including photography, data analysis and the scientific process.

     

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

     

    • Research
      • Reviewing similar information about similar studies
      • Research data entry
      • Creating a bibliography
    • Visual Material
      • Finding or creating visual materials such as photos or videos of the project
    • Outreach and Communications
      • Developing preliminary signs and handouts, working with Ecology and Interpretation staff
      • Crafting and helping lead walks and talks related the project
    • Invasive plant control on priority species using multiple techniques that may include:
      • Hand pulling
      • Use of hand-tools
    • Seed collection
    • Assist working with volunteers groups (some weekend work may be required)
    • Assist in establishing plots and sampling plant community data on bottomlands.
    • Opportunities to cross-train with other work groups in the park.
    • Hiking both on and off-trail to remote sites throughout the park across rugged terrain.

     

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Experience or Coursework in Science Communication, Environmental Education, or Resource Interpretation and Outreach.
    • Interest in ecology, habitat restoration, science and the scientific process.
    • Must be between ages 18-30.
    • Must be a US Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the United States

     

     PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Positive attitude and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Possession of a current valid driver’s license.

     

    BENEFITS:

    • Position is eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the program. Value of education award is $1,342.86 (pre-tax).
    • Living Allowance: $440/ week (pre-tax)
    • Hands-on mentored work experience; individual training available to meet specific interests and needs.

  • Qualifications
    1. Ability to interact and communicate with people over the telephone and/or in person, often in stressful situations.
    2. Knowledge of medical terminology.
    3. Knowledge of patient medical records and clinical documents.
    4. Skill in the use of Hospital computer systems related to ADT order entry, requisitions, lab inquiries and other computerized processes and related software/hardware applications.
    5. Knowledge of clinical procedures and operations
    6. Knowledge of supplies, equipment ordering and inventory control.
    7. Clerical, word processing and office skills.
    8. Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instruction and safety precautions.
    9. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
