    Lead Radiologic Technologist – AFC Urgent Care

    Position Summary

    The Lead Radiologic Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality diagnostic imaging while providing daily leadership and oversight to radiologic technologists and medical assistants in an urgent care setting. This role ensures imaging excellence, regulatory compliance, workflow efficiency, and exceptional patient care across the center(s). The Lead Technologist serves as a clinical resource, mentor, and liaison between the clinical team and management.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Clinical Imaging Responsibilities

    Perform diagnostic radiologic procedures (primarily X-ray) following provider orders and established protocols

    Ensure proper patient positioning, radiation safety, and image quality standards

    Review images for quality and completeness before provider interpretation

    Maintain imaging equipment, perform quality control checks, and report maintenance issues promptly

    Adhere to ALARA principles and all state/federal radiation regulations

    Medical Assisting Duties

    Support clinic operations by assisting with opening/closing duties, including securing facilities, maintaining a clean reception area, and completing compliance checklists.

    Assist providers with clinical procedures, examinations, and delegated medical tasks.

    Conduct clinical intake by capturing thorough patient histories and updating EMRs with accuracy.

    Perform venipuncture and collect lab specimens in accordance with clinical standards. • Administer point-of-care (POC) testing (e.g., Strep, Flu, COVID, HCG, UA, Mono), ensuring timely documentation in the EMR.

    Complete required quality control (QC) testing on applicable medical supplies and devices.

    Perform Urine Drug Screen (UDS) & Breath Alcohol testing (BAT) on employer health patients

    Maintain well-stocked and sanitized exam rooms, ensuring operational readiness.

    Meet or exceed performance expectations based on key performance indicators (KPIs) established by clinic leadership.

    Support the discharge process by preparing patient instructions, prescriptions, and required documentation such as work or school notes.

    Manage and prioritize patient flow to optimize clinic efficiency and enhance the patient experience.

    Execute provider orders in alignment with state regulations and American Family Care (AFC) protocols.

    Facilitate patient referrals and diagnostic orders, ensuring appropriate follow-up and documentation of results.

    Ensure daily clinic compliance with operational and regulatory standards.

    Leadership & Team Support

    Serve as the on-site clinical lead for radiology operations during assigned shifts

    Provide training, coaching, and competency validation for radiologic technologists and cross-trained staff

    Support onboarding of new technologists and ensure proficiency with workflows and systems

    Act as a resource for troubleshooting imaging, workflow, and patient flow challenges

    Promote a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and patient-centered care

    Operational & Compliance Responsibilities

    Ensure compliance with state licensing, ARRT standards, OSHA, HIPAA, and accreditation requirements

    Maintain accurate documentation, logs, and quality assurance records

    Participate in audits, inspections, and corrective action plans as needed

    Collaborate with center leadership to improve imaging workflows, throughput, and patient experience

    Assist with scheduling, coverage coordination, and workflow optimization for radiology services

    Patient Experience & Safety

    Provide compassionate, efficient care to patients of all ages

    Explain procedures clearly and address patient concerns or anxiety

    Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and safety at all times

    Assist with other clinical duties as needed (e.g., rooming patients, vitals, splinting, EKGs, lab support) based on training and center needs

    Qualifications

    Required

    Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program

    Active ARRT certification (or state equivalent)

    Current state radiologic license (if required)

    Minimum 2–3 years of radiologic technologist experience, preferably in urgent care, emergency, or high-volume outpatient setting

    Demonstrated leadership or preceptor experience

    BLS certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe)

    Preferred

    Prior experience as a Lead Tech, Clinical Preceptor, or Supervisor

    Multi-site or high-volume urgent care experience

    Cross-training in medical assisting or limited lab procedures

    Strong EMR and imaging system proficiency

    Variable shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

    May require travel between centers (if applicable)
