  • Responsibilities

    Under the supervision of the Director of Hospice, the Volunteer Coordinator is primarily responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing all elements of the volunteer program including the training and scheduling of volunteers.

    The Volunteer Coordinator will facilitate patient care volunteer services for patients/families in cooperation with the hospice interdisciplinary team and provide collaborative support to the Volunteer Program in compliance with organization policies and procedures and applicable laws and regulations.

    In addition, the Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, retention and basic development of programs and services related to hospice volunteers.

    EDUCATION:

    Bachelor’s degree required.

    WORK EXPERIENCE:

    Two (2) years experience in providing coordination and supervision of volunteers required.

    Two (2) years experience in a hospice setting preferred. 

    SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills required for effective interaction with staff, patients and their families.

    Excellent organizational skills required.

    Must possess computer skills and be able to discover creative ways to engage volunteers including social media, newspaper and other media outlets.

    Valid PA driver's license required for travel throughout Lackawanna, Luzerne, Wayne, Wyoming, and Pike counties.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Light work: duties require exerting up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally (approximately 10-33% of shift) and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently (approximately 33-66% of the time), and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move, lift, carry, push, and pull objects.

    Position involves bending, reaching, and stooping (occasionally in strained position).

    Must be able to transport self throughout the facilities and surround community.

    ACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARDS:

    No unusual accident or health hazards inherent in position.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Works in well-lit office environment.

    Position involves travel in varying weather conditions.
