Reporting to the Director and/or the Nurse Manager of the department and frequently under the direction of a registered nurse assembles charts, transcribes physicians orders, maintains files/records and enters patient information into a computerized data system. Acts as a representative for the department/unit via telephone and in person. Qualifications: * Completion of a High School Diploma or its equivalent with courses in office procedures. Technical training beyond high school highly desirable. * One (1) to three (3) months of prior hospital/unit based training and experience in order to acquire a basic knowledge of medical terminology, learn correct procedures for chart preparation/record maintenance and to deal effectively with unit personnel and all others. * Clerical ability necessary to transcribe orders. * Interpersonal skills necessary to frequently interact in a courteous manner with patients, physicians, nursing staff, visitors and all other departmental personnel. * Computer knowledge required. Previous experience with Microsoft Word and Excel highly desirable. * Previous experience working with office machinery including but not limited to photocopiers and fax machines. * Ability to deal with a number of tasks simultaneously.
