    Job Summary

    The job of Maintenance Technician and Custodian is done for the purpose/s of maintaining facilities in safe operating condition; maintaining a preventive maintenance program; documenting information; resolving immediate operational and/or safety concerns; and ensuring assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner. This position is also responsible for general maintenance and repair of all Share facilities. General maintenance includes such items as replacing light bulbs, replacing air filters, repairing dripping/leaking faucets/running toilets, tightening loose fixtures, replacing broken fixtures, replacing blown fuses, replacing broken outlets/switches, etc. This maintenance list is not exhaustive or complete and is for illustrative purposes only. This position is also responsible for cleaning and sanitizing. One level of responsibility, for Share's main office location - the Fromhold building, requires deep cleaning of the entire facility twice a week. The second level of responsibility, for the shelters and other facilities Share operates, requires general light cleaning/maintenance and deep cleaning of the bathrooms. Other Share staff are responsible for daily cleaning of Share's shelter and other facilities.

    Lobby/Hallways/ TV Room/Computer Room/Playroom /Offices - Daily

    • Keep furniture free of dust and debris and windowsills free of dust/bugs.

    • Vacuum

    • Spot clean furniture removing spillage, marks, and rings. Spot clean entrance door glass and interior door glass.

    • Spot clean interior relight glass, as necessary.

    • Dust mop and damp mop all hard surface floors.

    • Disinfect high touch surfaces such as door handles and light switches

    • Empty trash and recycling receptacles. Replace liners if soiled.

    Dining Room – Daily

    • Dust mop and damp mop hard surface flooring.

    • Clean and disinfect countertops, sink, tables, and chairs.

    • Spot clean exterior of appliances.

    • Clean interior of microwaves.

    • Empty and clean all waste receptacles and replace liners.

    • Remove waste material to trash bin.

    Restrooms – Daily

    • Mop all floors with germicidal disinfectant and remove all spots and stains

    • Clean and polish all mirrors and bright work.

    • Clean and wipe dry all plumbing fixtures.

    • Clean and disinfect all toilet seats, toilets, sinks and urinals.

    • Clean and disinfect showers and bathtubs.

    • Empty trash receptacles and dispose in building trash receptacles. Replace trash liners.

    • Fill soap dispensers, toilet tissue and paper towel dispensers.

    • Clean and wash the receptacles and dispensers.

    • Remove fingerprints and spots from the walls.

    • Disinfect the door handles and light switches.

    • Report all maintenance problems to the building manager (dripping faucets, broken fixtures, etc.)

    Kitchen – Daily

    • Dust mop and damp mop hard surface flooring.

    • Clean the front and sides of the stove and refrigerator.

    • Empty and clean all waste receptacles and replace liners. Remove waste material to building trash bin.

    General Areas

    • High and low dust to remove cobwebs.

    • Dust all baseboards.

    • Dust window treatments.

    • High dust lighting and ventilating ducts.

    • Clean relight glass.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Prior job-related experience is a must

    • Regular attendance needs to be maintained

    • Adhere to all health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Blood Borne Pathogens Control Plan and Personal Protective Equipment

    • High School diploma or equivalent

    • Multicultural Competency

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Good communication skills

    • Knowledge of various cleaning products and when to use them

    • Ability to clean and disinfect various surfaces

    • Ability to lift and move at least 75 pounds

    • Good organization skills

    • Knowledge of safety guidelines when working with chemical cleaners

    • Excellent time-management skills

    • Ability to work independently and make mature, responsible decisions.

    • Skills to use cleaning agents; supplies and equipment; perform basic math to calculate accurate dilution of cleaning agents.

    • Knowledge of methods and use of cleaning materials, equipment, supplies, safe work practices and HVAC operation.

    • Ability to push or pull a minimum of 75 pounds

    • Abilities to stand for prolonged periods, follow oral and written instructions, adhere to safe work practices, work independently with minimal supervision, perform a variety of tasks, and adjust to flexible assignments lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling/stooping / reaching/handling, near/far visual acuity/depth perception

    • Keeps updated MDS books with chemicals used at each site

    License, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:

    • Current Driver's License and Proof of Insurance

    • Blood Borne Pathogen Training Required – If not taken, employee must participate in Blood Pathogen Training in house within two months of hire.

    • Must pass criminal background checks.
